Worst case scenario if they look like shite, either refinish or slap some Formica on there if it’s just going to be a rental.

We put a butcher block counter in our laundry room. It was about the same price as quartz if I remember correctly.

The contractor sanded and finished it. Looks amazingly good in there. Wanted some wood grain in the room to warm it up.

Refinishing it isn't bad at all.

I had this discussion with my wife the other day. Wood is so great for so many applications. You can continue to make it look new again until there isn't any left.
