Weed eater and edger discussion.

Just went to buy an edger at home depot because my attachment on my husqvarna weed eater is getting up in age.
It was $320 for a dedicated edger and $350 for a weed eater with the ability to use attachments (echo brand)
My weed eater is getting old, but the engine still works well, is the edger worth it? If so, what brands are recommended?

I quit buying the big box store brand and bought Stihl. It costs a little more but, I know where it can be serviced, they’ll always have the attachments that will fit my model and it’s a superior product. I’ve yet to regret it.

Weed eater don’t fit in my hand

I have a Ryobi gas trimmer. I want to get a Stihl but the Ryobi keeps going season after season despite my neglect. I exclusively use the tru fuel type fuel for it. Use to mix my own and never had a trimmer last more than a season or two.

I use the Ryobi 40v weed eater and bought the edger attachment. It has more power than the 4 cycle edger I had before

I’m not familiar with their trimmer but, I know they make great products. I recently swapped from Dewalt due to some Meth heads needing my cordless tools more than me. I love my Ryobis, hands down better than my old Dewalts.

This.
I'm into year three with this setup.
The 40v blower is great, too.
I bought a reconditioned second battery that works great.

I have an Echo Weedeater and Echo Edger.
They are well worth the money.

Where did you get the reconditioned battery?

My Milwaukee has attachments for both. I usually bust out the edger once a month or so.

It was a couple of years ago.
There was a guy on fb market that had a pallet of them.
For $50, I took a chance and it worked out.

I use the 40v Ryobi as well. Direct tools outlet is a great place to grab stuff when on sale

I really like my Echo PAS225 system that accepts multiple attachments. I have the string trimmer, brush cutter and blower attachments, plus the shoulder strap harness. We live on a completely wooded lot with no grass or else I would have the edger attachment. Will likely add the pole saw attachment once my other gas pole saw needs replacing.

Agree. My Stihl Kombi is one of the best purchases I've ever made.

As someone who used to have 30+ yards as a side hustle, why do you need an edger? I've never owned one.
Trimmer with a speed feed and a little practice can make a better edge, without having to use multiple pieces of equipment. Saves time and money. Only real time you need a stick edge is if the property hasn't been cut in an extremely long time, and I figured that out with a trimmer as well.

My lines look much better with a dedicated edger. I just can’t do as fine a job with a string trimmer.
I only edge driveway and sidewalk, so I went cheap with a Southland on Amazon - it’s getting the job done.

I have a 22 year old echo weed eater that still fires up on 1st or 2nd pull. Only use ethanol free gas.
Spend a little more to get quality and treat it right, and it should last a long time.

I like the separate edger and use the Ryobi 18v battery edger. Other than the first cut in March, I may break it out once a month to touchup the sidewalks & driveway. As another poster said, I find I get much better lines this way, and when I used to use my weed eater I would burn through trim line like crazy.

I've gotten good at using my trimmer as an edger but I would like to get an edger one day so I can stop replacing the string as often.
Well, every other weekend my yard likes to try and grow out onto the sidewalk so I have to edge every time I mow.
