Do Weed and Feed fertilizers work fast or do they take weeks to show any sign of killing the weeds. My yard guy applied a Weed and Feed product three weeks ago and so far the Weeds are doing better than the grass. i. e. They are thriving on the fertilizer part.

Looks like the Feed part is working just fine but there is absolutely no evidence that anything is being impacted by the Weed part. Lawn guy says "just wait as when things start growing and gets regular watering, they will quickly die off." Well, I am tired of waiting so someone that knows what to expect please advise.

I bought some Scotts Bonus S last year because there was a huge sale (like 60% off). I would never pay full price for that stuff. It didn't kill shite.

ETA: I'm going to stick to weeding and feeding separately. It's what should be done anyway.

Your yard guy has no clue was he’s doing. I can spray water on your grass and tell you that winter weeds will die when things get growing.

Scott’s Miracle Gro, my former employer, is a fantastic marketing firm. They have the whole country convinced that weed and feed work well out of the same bag.

Like the others have said I’ve never found weed & feed to be effective at killing weeds. Just seems to feed them. I spray Trimec, Weed B Gone or Weed Free Zone and follow up with broadcasting Atrazine a few days later. Very effective. Trimec type herbicides contain 2,4-D dicamba and mecoprop. Wait a couple of weeks then broadcast a good lawn fertilizer.

There is such a demand for it from unknowing customers that they have to make it. I get it from a business/profit perspective.

Plus it’s much more expensive (and less effective) in the long run than getting separate herbicides.

The only weed and feed that I’ve ever seen that somewhat worked was this stuff my neighbor bought that came in the mail. I believe it was an Anderson product. Personally I’ve never had great results with weed and feed. Someone above gave you excellent advice above on what to spray and their suggestions were affordable. I have zoysia, Tifway 419 hybrid bermuda, and centipede in my yard. I prefer Celsius WG because it can be sprayed on all three different cultivars I have without killing them even when it’s in the 90’s. I don’t have to remember which one will or won’t kill the different grasses I have in certain parts of my yard. I’ll add Certainty for Poa and Sedgenut or Sedgehammer for Sedgenut to my Celsius if I have issues with those other two weeds I named above. What I’m recommending is probably considered too expensive by many especially right now with inflation ripping us all a new one. However, a bottle of Celsius WG only uses about a teaspoon per gallon so it last me for years. It can also be bought for about $25 to mix up 2 gallons if you have a small yard. Celsius does not kill everything in the yard as quick as others but stuff starts dying the first week and it just seems to make the weeds die in 7-21 days with noticeable results in 4-5 days. Again though what was suggested above are excellent choices.

Where are you getting your Trimec from, can't seem to find a good concentrate anywhere and apparently it can't ship to Louisiana. Tractor supply sells "Gordon's Trimec" but it is twice the price and diluted.
