Has anyone ever tried to incorporate their traditional, mobile gas grill into a built-in outdoor kitchen set up? I got a new natural gas Weber and we are exploring the idea of doing a built in kitchen under our patio. Obviously plan to use cement board for the area around the grill and a vent plate for gas to escape. Besides that, any concerns of cutting the legs off of the grill and tying it into the counter?

Similar to this. Excuse the TAMU decor. It was the only example I could find.

I’m not sure if it’s best to incorporate or just “hide” it by making a door in front where you can roll it in and out

I’m staring at my space right now trying to picture how I want to build my cabinets but keep them mobile.

My in-laws took their old Weber genesis off of its base and built it into their outdoor setup. It can definitely be done.

The downside of this is replacements will be limited to what fits.

I have sink and fridge built in. Natural gas range on wheels right next to end of cabinets with flexible detachable hose. I find it helpful to be able to move the grill to adjust fo lighting and wind direction. When doing a complete clean I like to wheel it out from under roof near edge of slab. Kamadoe joe on movable cart also, can direct smoke where I like to keep out from seating area

Is anyone going to point out that the Aggie put his TV damn near directly above his grill?

Yes this can be done. Either google dismantling the Weber grill or just look for the nuts and bolts. I did this many years ago with a members mark grill. Would recommend metal framing to eliminate any chance of wood framing becoming a fire hazard.

I'd be using the cement backerboard for the pit area. This is still extremely theoretical. I'd also have to add a vent to my cooking area so it may just be easier/cheaper to find a grill and vent combo anyways.

i would, its a great extra cooking option but gas doesnt do well with outdoor cooking if its windy unless its shielded from the sides so if you cant do that then run it off the propane tank for the BBQ

When I built my outdoor kitchen that is exactly what I did. Just had to make the space for it.
