Tool Combo Pack Rant

Home Depot's "Special Buy of the Day" prompted this rant. IMO HD/Lowes/etc. could take all my money if they would do a mix & match tool-kit purchase.
I've got a DeWalt drill/driver & impact, plus ample batteries. Surely there's others out there like me who would like to add the other tools to their mix without having to buy another drill/driver & impact?
Not to mention, the 7 1/4" circular saw is rarely bundled with anything else...
For example a "sale" where for $599 you got to pick from a certain group, or groups, of tools.
Anyone else end up with this predicament?

Northern tool often has kits with just a tool and battery, no charger. Usually can get a good battery too like 5/6 and up. I find that works best. The store combo kits are starter packs.
Otherwise you have to buy tool only. No discounts there in comparison to either kit type above.

Can find deals on eBay if patient. Have seen grinder, recip ssw, and occasionally (although less so) the circ saw
And I was jealous too of some of those combos too

combos suck because you get multiple tools but not multiple batteries and chargers
its better, and cheaper in the long run, to buy them separate so you get a battery and charger with each tool, then you dont have to buy a battery that costs 80% of the cost of buying the whole tool would when the one battery you have dies.
with those 4-5 tools bought separately, those 4-5 batteries and chargers along with the tools, should last you 15-20 years

No, I bought a 5-tool combo kit that came with two batteries and charger, then bought only the tools and batteries I needed from there on, often on sale. Now have a two-bank jobsite charger, a charger mounted in my work vehicle I can run off the built-in inverter, and two each of 3.0, 4.0, and 5.0 Ah batteries. 1/2" drill, 1/4-,3/8-, and 1/2-inch impacts, 3/8-inch right-angle drill, sawzall, work light, jobsite blower, skillsaw, router, and jigsaw. Also have a few 12V system tools. Even a little USB power adapter than can charge my phone or headlamp off a 12V or 20V battery.

I’ve got like 6 dewalt batteries and two chargers already.
The 8 remaining tools I don’t have in the 10-tool pack bought individually, even tool only, would be way more than the combo cost.

Well yeah, that's the point of the bigger combo sets. Also, places like CPO carry factory refurbished tools that are considerably cheaper and carry the same warranty as new.

Go look at CPO Outlet. They usually have 100 different bundles and are a Dewalt authorized store. They have a lot of refurbished stuff, but they also sell new items.

Why do you have to buy combos? If you have "ample batteries" just get the tool separate. I must be missing something.
BTW, Ryobi had a deal going around Xmas where you could buy a 2 battery pack with a charger and pick a tool from a list of about 30 for "free". If I remember, the 2 battery/charger pack was $99. The tool list regular price ranged from about $30 to $100.

I jumped on this... got the trim router. They usually run that deal once or twice a year

The problem I think OP is that Dewalt is not consumer/ residential grade its commerical grade for the most part. They run some deals to sell to consumers, but their market is guys that use them for their business and those guys don't care as much about deals and combo packs. If they need it they buy it.
ETA: As said above Ryobi, Craftsman, Kobalt, etc. are brands more made for consumers that try to run deals for consumers.
I also buy used equipment on Ebay all the time.

I’ll use the 10-tool pack I was referencing earlier. To buy the 8 tool onlys I actually want/need would be about the same/more as buying the combo pack.

So do like the commercial guys: buy the 10 pack and list the 2 unneeded tools on FB.
