I think some borders do look cheap, like the plastic tubing ones. I’ve used the metal edge before but after it while it starts to rust and looks like crap. That’ll make it look “cheap” I guess. But there ain’t nothing wrong with a good natural color stone edge IMO.

My neighbor had a really nice stone border for his garden. One day he's loading the stones onto someone's pickup truck. I go outside to help them load the stones, and he tells me he sold them on Facebook Marketplace. I ask why he's getting rid of them, and he tells me "I just couldn't keep them clean, so I'm going with something else"

A week later someone is installing the rubber bulb style border in his garden.

Looks like shite now. All because he wanted to - for some reason - keep the stones "clean."

I have mix of Bermuda and St Aug. I didn’t plan this, it’s a rent house. This year, I kept a bit of length on the grass all year, having raised the height either 1 or 2 notches higher than the year before. My Bermuda all looks like shite but the St Aug held up well.

Someone on this forum eventually told me that Bermuda should be kept especially short but that requires cutting the St aug incredibly short. I can’t win.
