The Tomato Growing Experience

So true. I've not had a lot of success with tomatoes for several years due to disease, fungal issues, pests, etc. and did plant them earlier this year and got a fair crop.

Every year mine didn't do well I'd tell the wife I'll not plant them next spring------------and always do.

Spaghetti sauce. I made some the other day with garlic, basil, and oregano all from the garden. Was absolutely delish.

Probably will try BBQ sauce if it can be canned in a water bath.

Also I'm not sure why I decided to grow purple hull peas this year except I'm a masochist. 1 gallon of shelled peas later and I think I have carpal tunnel...

As a kid, I remember having to shell peas all the time. Ugh.

Time to plant fall tomatoes.

I never do. Started some seeds yesterday.

4 Beefmasters and 4 Cherokee Purples.

Also started some brussel sprouts. Didn’t have much luck with them last year, but I’m going to try again. Don’t think I gave them enough nitrogen last year.

I had tried rooting some suckers but only a couple of them really took. Armyworms found the two that rooted and were looking kinda bad so I figured I’d just start some seeds since I still have a crap load.

I’m going to have to try again next year and maybe keep them in a safer place.

Maybe it's all the rain... but this year some of my clippings/pruning took root when tossed on the compost pile.

Either way you still have plenty of time.

eta: probably wouldn't happen if trying

Took out everything except peppers and eggplant. Started some Fall tomato seeds two weeks ago. Plan to start Fall corn and beans in two weeks. Will put carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and turnips in around Labor Day.

Man, that reminds me when I was a kid. One of my aunts and grandma would run to the French Market and buy bushel baskets of peas, corn and okra.

We'd sit around in the living room watching TV and shell peas, but we would always be on the back porch shucking corn with all that "hair" that kind of went everywhere.

Okra was washed and then cut up to stew down to go in the freezer-----I still do this to this day and probably have 30 quart bags in my freezer now.

Me too. They used me as child labor.

I planted my green bean seeds six days ago and they are already 4" tall. How does that happen?

How long does it take to grow an eggplant. My damn plants are 4 feet tall with all kind of flowers, and not one damn eggplant.

Sounds like they’re not getting pollinated. You should’ve had some eggplant by now.
