However spending a lot of time outside this weekend I did see a couple of honey bees flying around so they have to be reaching the garden.

Sounds like the major tallow flow is just about over down here from what I’m hearing. My understanding is that between late June/early July until about October there is a dearth. So they’ll be foraging on anything they can. So they’ll probably be hitting our gardens finally.

Just out of their range unfortunately. I’m certain there are probably feral colonies within 2 miles of you, though.

I just picked 12 large cucumbers yesterday, so I am going to do some cutting and pickling in the next couple days. My first experience pickling last year was a good learning experience. I used the mix that Pillage recommended and really enjoyed them. I didn't listen when everyone said to let them marinate for a month before digging in. I opened the first couple of jars after two weeks and was a little disappointed. The ones I let simmer for a month though were awesome.

I took half an hour last week and tamed my two indeterminate tomatoes. I'm afraid they are almost out of control again though. They are already about 7 feet tall. They are absolutely LOADED with fruit though. We are going to be overwhelmed in about two weeks.

My blueberries are finally beginning to ripen as well. This is year 2 with them, so it is really my first harvest as they weren't mature plants when I got them. It is really nice to grab a couple handfuls to snack on when I get home at night!

I’ve tried quite a few different recipes, a couple of them were really good, but that Ms Wages just makes it so much easier and I really like it. If it ain’t broke. I need to can some more stuff. I ordered a bunch of regular mouth lids and I’m waiting for them to come in. I’m still not able to find them in any stores. I’ll probably make 6 jars of pickles tonight cause that’s all the lids I have left. And I’ll freeze tomatoes and peppers. Im going to probably cook the okra and eggplant.

After a slow start, I can’t believe how much my garden exploded over the last month and a half.

Except for the beans. They had a brief moment, but they fizzled quick. I think I’m going to go back to Blue Lakes. Wasn’t a big fan of the yard longs anyway.

ETA: On the bee front, I set up a swarm trap about 25 feet from the hive. So if they do swarm again, hopefully I can catch them. Still hoping they don’t, though.

I picked quite a bit the last few days as well. Will probably let it go a few more weeks and will start yanking everything out. I want a nice fall garden this year.

Picked roughly 300 pounds of red potatoes today. Heat was serious.

Yeah, the tomatoes are getting out of control. I’ve slacked on pruning them and it shows. They are still going strong.

Okra has taken off as well. Picking every day.

Only thing that has disappointed so far are the peppers. They are producing a bit but have stayed pretty small. I’ll go back to pruning flowers the first few weeks.

I need to start planning for the fall.

Wanted to share this because I had a huge problem with ants in my okra last time I grew them. They were already attacking my okra plants this season. So I took an empty 20 oz coke bottle and put 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, 1/8 cup of borax powder, and shook it vigorously to mix it. Then I drilled 1/8” holes in the cap. Large enough for the ants to get in, but small enough to keep bees out. Set it by the ant pile that was on my row of okra with the cap against the top of the row. Covered the rest of the bottle with pine mulch to keep it in place. I haven’t seen an ant on my okra for weeks.

Anyone starting anything anytime soon?

I had taken some suckers I snipped off various tomatoes and potted them and they're doing great. Also curious about planting beans from seed.

When does everyone start their fall garden?

I am in the BR area for reference.

I'm pretty much over everything except peppers ha. I've gotten lazy with picking tomatoes and a couple got lost on the vine. I've made probably 35 jars of salsa over the last two weeks. I never got around to starting okra so I probably won't do that this year. Squash has slowed down a bit but them and the zucchini plants are still doing fine. I will probably pull them soon.

Planted another round of snap beans and started some fall tomatoes and tromboncino squash this past Saturday, along with a few perennial herbs I've been wanting to start. The tomatoes and Squash sprouted Tuesday, and some of the herbs sprouted yesterday. That's 3-germination, which would be a record for me

Usually start tomato seeds mid to late July. I’m going to root some suckers and see how they do. If they don’t make it I still have seeds. Brussel sprouts mid July. Cabbage, broccoli, mustard greens, and cauliflower seeds around mid August. Carrots in September. Garlic cloves in October. Onion seed in October.

I guess I’ll have to start gathering supplies.

Do you start Brussels and broccoli from seed? Last two years I’ve gotten seedlings but not until late September. Maybe I’m late on these

Yep. Everything I listed was starting from seed.

ETA: I may start the brussel sprouts a tad later this year. I found they struggled in the heat last year.

Damn you guys already talking about your fall garden and I'm just now getting my first tomatoes

Oh, and Matt's Wild Cherry tomatoes are delicious in case anyone was considering growing them.
