I'm about to pull my five year old crappy stuff out. The motion detector parts don't work anymore. This on the corners of my homes-more security than decorative. So, I want the most cost efficient approach. They look to be anywhere from $40 a light to $100. What is the good stuff? Educate me.

Dual lights.
LED?
lumens?
light color?

I work for an electrical contracting company. We recommend Lithonia lighting products. We get them from an electrical supplier, but I believe you can buy them at Home Depot. They come in bronze or white, and being LED means you don't have to climb a ladder to change the bulbs every year. I have several at my house

I put some RAB Lighting LED lights on my carport. They work very well, have been going for 5+ years without a hiccup, and I expect many more uneventful years from them. I remote mounted the sensor.

Integrated LED bulbs are nice for a sleek look but if a diode fails the whole unit has to be replaced. With LED bulbs you can just swap it out, although if it's a quality bulb it will probably last for years. I have some Edison-style clear LED bulbs in my living room that have been on for almost 3 straight years. They may outlive the lamps I have them in.

This, plus you can opt for brighter bulbs and replace them. I've put 3 fixtures around my house and have installed 8 others for friends and family. Have over 3000 lumens per fixture.

Choose light based on space you are lighting, i.e. the location on the house, how high up, what area of coverage you need. I have 2 on my house and my one complaint is that the motion detection fails intermittently on both of them sometimes. They are two different brands purchased from home depot. I'd say as mentioned, if your existing hardware is reliable, just go to a place like superbrightleds.com and upgrade the bulb. Temp/lumens ratings would be based on how bright you want to go depending on if you are lighting in a dark rural area or a populated area with surrounding night light pollution.

Defiant is one brand and the Lithonia lighting is the other brand. Do go with dual lights though. LED is great for saving on electricity and having to replace the bulbs when they go out. I don't buy Lithonia anymore as i used to work for the parent company and they are $hit bags.

And screw Lithonia lighting products...i worked for the parent company for almost 9 years and they screwed me.
