Not a shutoff valve for them? Even with them cutoff I put the covers on. I think it helps with the heat transfer from the pipe into the wall, where I have pipes that aren’t cut off. Should also mention I’m in AK though.

I wrap a rag/towel around the spigot if there's any gap between the cover and the house. I have Hardi siding so there's a slight gap in most places, plus I always have styrofoam wrap between the house the spigot, so I'm just wrapping from the handle to the spout.

A small plastic box with a 75 watt bulb inside is what I have on all 3 hose bibs. Been doing this for a few years. Light bulb puts off plenty of heat to keep hose bib from freezing. Just get a closet light fixture (plastic is fine... either are less than $2 at Home Depot) and cut off an extension cord and attached it to the fixture. Mount fixture inside the plastic box with zip ties instead of screws. Set box against house and hold it in place somehow. Plug it in and you are good to go for a night or a week.

If you have a 110V car worklight with a hook or the clamp this will work fine also. Has to be an incandescent light... NOT LED.

Have hot and cold side by side outside!

I stuff a rag inside the cover and then use rags to stuff around the edges if there is a gap.
A couple of my faucets are on. rock so there are gaps

Most stuff I found on google search says they are good for 25 degrees for a few hrs. I took them off at dark and turned the water on with a steady small stream.

I did not, but if you are worried put a disposable hand warmer inside it

Handwarmers are a great suggestion. I just bumbled and stumbled outside and added some to my styro covers.

My neighbors are used to seeing me drunkingly fight with my landscaping in the daylight hours...I put on a good show for them.

Have you done this before? I was thinking about this yesterday and was worried that they might get too hot inside the cover.

They are safe for your hands to touch, they will not melt Styrofoam
