My bottle of MSM came today. It's awfully small for $30 and I was surprised to see it's granules? Thought it would be a liquid.

I've got a 2 gallon pump sprayer that I'll be using to spot treat the St Aug. I can't find the ratio I should be using for 2 gallons of water to spot treat only where I see weeds. Does anyone know?

Any tips to using this stuff? It's my first time using anything that says it requires gloves, long sleeves, long pants, eye protection etc and I don't want to mess up the lawn

An 1/8 teaspoon in 1 gallon water + 2 teaspoons of surfactant should work for spot spraying weeds. I’ve used that rate for spot spraying without harming St Augustine or Centipede.

Mine came with a small measuring cup/cylinder. 0.1oz per gallon of water as I recall.

Nevermind I found the answer. Thanks again for all the info.

Put on rubber glove

Wet pinky finger

Stink wet finger in MSM bottle up to knuckle

Whatever sticks to your finger, put in your hand sprayer, it doesn't take much

*I would suggest dissolving granules in a jar of water or something before putting it in sprayer

Got another MSM question.

Wanting to do a mix of MSM and prodamine. Got a 25 gallon pull behind sprayer and a ~0.85 acres to treat. Can anyone help me with application rates? First time tank mixing so I am a little gun shy.

Does anyone have a mixing calculator or anything like that? If not, the H&G board needs to invent that.

NVM: Found a post from Crawdude in December.

quote:

You can mix and spray Prodiamine and MSM Turf together. 0.5 gram MSM Turf (= 1/8 teaspoon) per 1000 sq ft and 4 oz of Prodiamine per 1000 sq ft mixed, so 1/2 those amounts for 500 sq ft. Mix in 1 gallon of water and spray the entire content over the 500 sq ft. Add the Prodiamine first, mix and then add the MSM Turf to the solution.

In both herbicides mixtures, add 2 teaspoons of surfactant per gallon of solution.

No fertilizer until next spring.

And remember the Prodiamine needs to be watered in, so after a couple days post-application, in the absence of rain, water the lawn to move Prodiamine into the soil - root zone of germinating weed seeds.

Depends on the desired turf. A high rate is 1oz/acre. So put 0.85oz in your 25 gallon sprayer and try to empty your tank evenly across your yard.

You should probably calibrate your sprayer so you know exactly how much to add.

Also, you’ll need to put about 8.5oz of spreader sticker in your 25 gallon tank. This helps the msm bind to your weeds.

dang. I spot treated my yard 2 weeks ago with MSM, but I forgot to add the surfactant to the mix. Did I waste my time? If so, should I do it again now or should I wait a while before doing it correctly?

1/8 tsp per gallon MSM. 1/3oz (2 tsp) per gallon non-ionic surfactant (speaker sticker)

You can double that MSM rate in bermuda or zoysia. Don’t play around in centipede, especially right now during green up.

I’ve seen reference to msm and not getting too close to oaks. What is too close?
