Shoe Moulding Help

My finish carpenter installed the base boards too high and even using the largest show moulding I can’t hit it with my nail gun.
I know, he was who I could find after Laura and previously did good work.
Any recs?

1 1/4" door stop molding, then nail quarter round to that.
Or buy the hollowed out baseboard that fits over existing baseboard.

Finish carpenter and painters walked off of the job the day before we moved back in after being out for 9 months.
Wife canceled FC last draw $4,500 but he handed me the check and bounced after I asked about his FU.
Laura was more traumatic than my dads death for our family.

I've ripped strips out of 1x material to fill in those gaps before, not fun.

Shoe & 1/4 are similar with the latter being smaller so no.

quarter round is larger than shoe. there is also a larger quarter round thats 1 /4" x 1 1/4"

Yeah that sucks. You’ll have to rip and fill the gap. Will the shoe cover the gap? Just not catch a nail. Tearing out and putting back the same base might be about the same amount of work.

Post Laura floor had to come up due to cupping at installers labor and stores floor. Installer did a shite job of putting moulding back so now I have to fix it.

Is the subfloor plywood? Are you happy with the floor? If yes and yes, then the shoe mold is just cosmetic. Shoot it down to the floor. Just a nail every 24” or so it’s not going to go anywhere
If the subfloor is your slab then don’t do that
Another option is to have a larger shoe mold milled it’s not that big a deal it’s done all the time

How does someone who calls themselves a carpenter not know to push the baseboard down to floor level before nailing it in????
As for your problem, go to a lumber yard and look at all their available molding profiles. Many of them have small pieces in their office or showroom you can look through to see if you can find one that works for you.

If the shoe fills the gap, can you use a longer finish nail and hit the sill? Just need to lay your nailer more parallel to the floor to miss the slab.

They make a 7/8" tall. Are the gaps bigger than that?
