Why? Unless under warranty, Paying a dealer for service, routine maintenance, etc. Is ludicrous and a waste of money. I do my own service. Ive replaced spindles, belts, blades, and do my own oil changes.
Parents have an older AYP Poulan Pro lawn tractor that the transmission finally went out on. I hopped online bought them a new tranny for $300 and installed it for them. When my new Husqvarna needs one years from now, I'll do the same thing.
Dealers make their money off of foolish people by up selling them on parts your mowers dont really need, just like car dealerships do with vehicles.

That 30 second Easy Oil change on that John Deere S100 or S120 is going to be very expensive over the long haul.
Correct. For my first oil change I changed it out with an adapter kit that came with oil and a filter for around $25. Easy change and allows you to enjoy normal oil changes with a great mower.

Good deal. It's a Briggs engine. Buy the Supertech st3614 oil filter for $2.97 at Walmart from now on. Much cheaper and way better quality than JD or Briggs branded filters. The st3614 is good for 10,000 miles in vehicles, wouldnt try putting that many on a mower between oil changes though. Lol

It's possible that some people actually prefer to have a dealer take care of their equipment. Not every lawnmower owner is a technician with a garage full of snap on tools.
Big box stores also do not handle mower warranty unless they ship it off to another town.

Can't agree with that. Those easy change things leave about 25% bad oil in them.

I should have worded that differently. The adapter kit is easy to change... That's why I took the EZ change deal off of there. There's no logic out there that can allow me to justify leaving sheared oil in an air cooled motor like that.

I would suggest find a used commercial grade mower for the same money, and it will be a better mower than anything you get from a big box store.

I have a 2017 Cub Cadet 46 inch cut and 22 HP Kohler. I haven't had one issue with it other than having to change the battery once.

Snapper still makes the "old school" style
My retired neighbor 2 houses down has a 25+ yr old snapper that he fully restored around Xmas. He told me this lawnmower was the first “big” purchase he made after getting married and ain’t never gonna get rid of it.
That thing is NICE.

Snapper will never be the same quality after shutting down the McDonough, GA plant and moving production to WI. It’s now a brand owned by Briggs & Stratton, which went thru BK and is now owned by a private equity firm.
