Replacing 2-ton evaporator coil on existing Goodman unit cost

Just got a quote to make this repair and it is almost $2k! That seems pretty high. Any insight on how much something like this should cost? Will get 2nd opinion.

That does seem high. I would get quotes from at the very least two more companies.

That was my plan, but most companies want to charge $80-$100 just to come out.

If it is a quality installer, that sounds in the ballpark.
If you want to go cheap you can buy a coil yourself for under $500 online and get someone to install it for you on the side.
I would have guessed $1500 would be the typical price for this job in my area. Not sure about yours.

I've had two replaced in last year (rentals).
Each were $1000. But

That Goodman coil may have a lifetime warranty against leaks. Mine does.

Does the new coil on the condenser take the same refrigerant as the coil on the AHU? The new refrigerants require higher pressures. New coil outside = new coil inside, depending on age of unit and availability of replacement part for a coil that takes the "old" refrigerant. Has to do with the new SEER ratings. If your AC is pre-Obama, then you may be looking at an expensive part and cost to charge the system with "old" refrigerant (and I know from experience that the cost for the old stuff is outrageous).

Get rid of the Goodman. The coil is just the beginning

Everyone in the HVAC world makes pretty good equipment these days when it comes to reliability. there is no point shopping by brand name unless you are looking for specific features, not necessarily quality.
The quality of the work/install is what you should be shopping for. That will determine how trouble free the installation is over its lifetime.

Goodman sucks.
I have three units and had to replace two of them last year. Less than 10yr old units.
They had a 5yr warranty.

I had two Goodmans. Don't have any now. Coils were replaced, at least twice. There is a reason contractors use this brand when building a house.

My Goodman needed a coil change at 8 years old. New aluminum coil installed for 750 and has been fine for the last 7 years. My AC guy installed it on his own time at a good discount.... Usually it is about 1200.00 through a reputable AC company.

I have a Goodman on my house and it sucks too. Coil had to be replaced after 12 years. Cost me $1500.
Spec home builders love em bc they're cheap.
I'll never own another one again

More than likely it was a poor installation. Goodman makes as good of equipment as anyone else and they sell a lot more than everyone else.
The issue is because Goodman doesn't limit sales to licensed installers/distributors. They will sell to anyone. So all the crap workers that can't do quality work buy this equipment and sell it to customers who don't know what a quality installation is.
That does end up giving Goodman a bad reputation but they use all the same parts as everyone else.

I have a 2.5 ton Goodman and it came with a 10 year warranty for everything except the heat exchanger, which has a 20 year warranty.

Nah my comment sums it up

I hate Goodman products. I just replaced mine last year. I went with carrier brand because I didn't want to replace the coils on a Goodman.

This is what I discovered. I could not tell the difference in the units I was looking at back last summer. I am sure if you get into the higher end units with different features it may be different...but I just wanted to be able to turn it on and have it cool 1000 sq ft of my house.
