I need to have my house painted within 3-5 years. In the meantime, is it worth it to pressure wash the home to knock off the excess dirt and debris? Or, should I just wait and repaint it in a few years?

Would it mess the paint up even worse (wood siding)?

I wouldn’t pressure wash it. I did this and it caused me to have to repaint sooner than I would’ve if I just used a detergent.

Jomax, a little bleach, add water to a pump sprayer and spray the house down then come back and hose it off.

I've used it for years and it works just fine without having to break out a scrub brush and get physical with it----unless it's got crud really built up on it that is. If just for surface dirt and a bit of mildew, no problem.

Go the Jomax and bleach route (100%,positively use the Clorox green label outdoor bleach) and you'll never think about a pressure washer again.

I've tried cheap, regular bleaches before and didnt get NEAR the same results as the true outdoor bleach

I’ve used a product called Mold Armor from HD & Lowes. Not very expensive has a hose connection. It has a rinse setting too. Best results of products I’ve used over the years. Stopped using pressure washer years ago to hard on paint.

Awesome is GREAT!

But I def agree Jomax/bleach for outside siding. I use the Awesome stuff all over inside tho. Stains, etc.

I like the tip for the green top outdoor bleach tho, will def try that next time

Second the mold armor. It works well. Although the house we bought hadn't been done in maybe a decade. So I did have to come back and pressure wash some areas.

just use jomax bleach n water...(follow the directions on the label)
2 gallon sprayer...
garden hose...
knocked off 10+ years of build up...
had to use the brush on the heavy stuff...
glad I didn't have to use the pressure washer...it can tear stuff up...

it worked really well. The pressure isn't as advertised so make sure you can get close enough, and I also needed about double what I thought I was going to need, but it made a 4 hour job into a 30 minute job

when i asked i actually had a 2.5gal jug in my truck. Did the back of my house and shed yesterday with it and it worked really well. And way less hassle than pressure washing. I also bought a 16' telescoping handle and a brush from lowes to scrub any high areas that had stubborn crap on them and to get mud-dobber nests.

i mixed 1:1 in a 1 gallon sprayer and was able to knock about 10' of wall and soffit with 3 mixings (so used 1.5 gal of juice) My quick math says i covered about 800SF/gal

i will use 30 second cleaner in the future and would recommend.

Everything that has been posted works well for cleaning the exterior of your home. The major problem with chemical cleaning and/or pressure washing is that you break the sheen of the paint. Once you wash a surface with any type of bleach or strong surfactant the surface will have more surface tension which will allow dirt, mold, and mildew to attach itself more easily. When I wash my windows and areas of the exterior of my home, I use car wash. I pour the car wash into a empty Windex outdoor sprayer and soak the area with the soap, brush it with a wide long handle scrub brush and rinse. If I'm doing the windows only, I use car wash with carnauba wax and this causes the water to bead right off. This was rather lengthy but hope the info helps.

Yes pressure washing will remove any cracked paint. Cleaning the house the jomax & a hose is the route to take.

Painters have to pressure wash before painting.

JoMax with outdoor bleach has worked well for me.

I am testing Mold Armour this weekend on a small section of my house - the reviews are great.
