I've owned a few above ground pools so I have a tiny bit of a clue, but we just go done putting in a 16000 gallon saltwater fiberglass pool with a 600 gallon spillover spa with full Pentair everything and I would like some suggestions for how to setup the daily running of the system. I just installed the wireless gateway yesterday, so I now have access to the Screenlogic2 system. Pump is a Intelliflo variable speed pump.

Just for reference this is how the pool company left it setup.

Pool circulates from 8A-4P with Chlorinater running at 50%
Spillover from 4P-4:30P no Chlorination
Spa heats and circulates from 4:30P-10P no Chlorination

I don't think that really makes sense, doesn't seem to really mix in enough chlorination between the spa and pool water. And even with supplementing 3" tabs, I'm still barely reading any Chlorine.

I think I've got the stabilizer up to where it needs to be, put two pounds of cynuric acid in so far.

Mainly I (think I) just need advice on pump usage, circulation, and salt water chlorination level/time.

TIA!

When pool pump running, is any water going into the spa?

What causes your water to spill over from the spa?

System has two motorized actuators that control where the water is coming from (pool or spa) and where it is going (pool or spa). So for spill over it is coming from pool, putting it all back into the spa.

It is not necessary to run the heat on the spa daily if you are not going to use it.

Even if the chlorination is not on, there is still chlorine in the pool and it will get circulated.

You may want to turn up the chlorination, especially this time of year, I have mine set to 80% with the hot weather and heavy usage I found I needed to turn it up.

I run my pump 11hrs per day in summer from 8am to 7pm. I use 3in tablets until CYA levels are right, then just liquid bleach.

Any thoughts on running longer vs running at a higher output?

What kind of chlorine are you using? Trichlor? Dichlor? Liquid?

I’d just turn up the chlorination rate during the period it’s being used.

Saltwater Chlorine Generator

(Mostly for my own reference) What I have found is that your pump time/flow should be based on your turnover, then just adjust the chlorination as needed to keep 2-4 ppm Free Chlorine.

I have a 10k gallon gunite pool. Since I had the pool I run the pump year round 12 hours a day from 6 to 6. I have the lights come on at 6 and turn off at midnight. My chlorinator runs in the summer at 75% because of the cl2 loss due to sunlight and heat. In the winter the chlorinator automatically shuts off at my setpoint of 68 deg water temp. once the pool is stable i might use a bag of salt a month. depends on the rain. And every spring I do heavy dosing of chemicals and stabilizers. thats it quite simple. LINK
