re: Pool contractor question

This is the kind of info that helps. Wife and I met with Roy, and have talked to his wife on the phone. They seem really nice, and we are heavily leaning towards them. Another thing I like is they handle everything. Fencing, electrical, concrete repair afterwards. That stuff is extra but with other companies they want me to contract out an electrician run the wiring they will need, and also contract out a sprinkler guy to move sprinklers that need moving. They all say they will likely break concrete sidewalks and driveways to install, but Poolmasters is the only one that has said they will do that work also for additional cost. I like just having one company that's responsible for everything.

My next door neighbor (who is foriegn and claims to not speak english very well) hired Grassmasters to build a 6 ft. privacy fence. I come home from work and noticed that they have set the posts 2 ft. over the property line. I confronted his contractor about this. Grassmasters told me that he set the posts where his customer told him to set them. I asked Grassmasters if they checked the survey stakes to verify where the property lines run (which I thought was standard practice)..they told me "No"
Based in that experience alone I doubt I would hire that company to do ANYTHING for me
Were they survey stakes visible? If so, I understand the frustration. Either way, the homeowner bears some responsibility here too. 9/10 times the company is just going to put the fence where the homeowner tells them
Also, did they fix it? Even the best contractors will frick something up from time to time. What really separates the good from bad in my opinion is whether they fix the problem.

So true. I have been swimming with the wife and kids almost everyday after work.

My wife and i discussed that when we move into our "forever home" first thing that gets installed is a pool. Right now we've been living high with our 10'x 18' inflatable

No, the stakes are buried. I have had 3 different fences built by "fence companies". Prior to each of them beginning construction all 3 companies brought out a metal detector, found the property stakes, and marked them.
Is that not a standard practice?

That sounds a little troubling but I wouldn't base my opinion over one instance like this. Especially if there is a language barrier involved. Also, as the person who is hiring out a contractor, you have to do your research and help them help you. I have had several fences at different properties put up, and I can tell you the contractors I used on those that were 3 different ones, would have likely put the fence where I told them, but I was the one that wanted to avoid potential issues like that, and got a survey or plat map on my own to make sure.
So what ultimately happened? Did they fix the issue?

Yeah, no kidding. Wife is seriously floating the idea of getting a 500 dollar above ground pool until our in ground gets put in. Im having trouble seeing spending that only to basically throw it away in 2 to 3 months.

It's common, but it isn't always the case. Personally, I would think it's the best practice for sure. But property markers can definitely be in the wrong spot too. I have a pretty small lot and had one corner just under a foot off b/c someone moved it several years before I bought the place.

Dang,you girls are awful pissy.
I gave an opinion of what I've seen over the years and you get your panties in a twist.
One twit even labeled me a political liberal name. What a loser.
Get your pool and let me know in ten years how much you love it.
I have no idea how I wound up in this forum to begin with. Are they moving threads around?
Oh well, peace out and I won't be back.
Damn.

You’re entitled to expressing your opinion; everyone else is entitled to calling it out as dumb. Don’t get pissy because everyone disagrees with every word you post. You’re better off accepting that you’re wrong, but If you can’t handle the criticism from an openly verbally abusive site, then don’t visit it.

Salt water pool here. Love it. We have had for four years . Once a month add bag of salt and a third bottle of acid. Once I had to get in pool with chlorine tablet and scrub two alge spots off bottom.
