Yesterday my wife noticed that the bathtub wasn't draining and blamed me even though I'm not the one with long hair. I then went to flush and it's clogged as well. If you turn on any of the sinks it causes water to back up in to the bath tub.

I'm going buy a snake to try and clear out whatever is in there. Would you go from the outside cleanout port or go in from the toilet inside? Never had to do this before.

I can tell you when my neighbor had this problem and he called a plumber, the plumber went from the outside cleanout.

This happened to me years ago. When your toilet drain is slow or blocked, you have a major blockage. Find your cleanout and work towards the inside sources.

It's on city sewage. Thinking I might just pay $225 for the plumber

Apples and oranges since plumbers are using a motorized snake that is much larger than the half inch manual snake that the OP will likely be using.

If OP is planning on doing this himself, he would do well to rent a motorized snake with a 100 foot coil.

Happened to me. Plumber kept snaking it and no good. Eventually went through vent on roof with larger snake.

How old is the home? Newer home with pvc, probably a clog. Older home and you start talking about all kinds of issues like deteriorated cast iron drain lines, broken terracotta lines, tree roots in lines, etc

Going to watch the plumber do it this time, have to leave early tomorrow morning for a work trip and don't want to leave the wife with the problem if I'm weren't able to fix it this evening.

Thankfully it was fixed and it was easily determined that the clog was her fault!
