Owl Houses

Anyone have one and have any luck getting a tenant?
Looked around the interwebs and found plans for a house and built it. Basically a giant bluebird house. One article said put it up in the fall so they can find it and settle in early next year.
I’m torn on where to put it and worried I can’t get it high enough on a tree with the ladders I have.

Hopefully you don’t have black bellied whistling ducks in your area. They’re parasitic nesters and tend to dump their eggs in any cavity they can get in.

What kind of owl? Where are you?

Yeah, they require about the most vanilla house. They are neat to have around with their night time cackling
I put up one at our place in Virginia last winter and had no takers this year.

I built a Wood duck house once and put in a tree thinking a squirrel would use it.
Wasn’t up but a few days and a Screech Owl took up residence.
I was surprised how small he was ,would perch in the entrance hole which was only 3 inches if I remember correctly.

I love black bellied whistling ducks. Found a stray duckling in the park, brought it home and raised it. It was the coolest little duck. Very affectionate and whistled to me all the time.

I have put several up over the years. Screech Owl? Most ended up with squirrels, except the one I installed at my place this year (it has a woodpecker in it). I do have owls hanging around my place more though.

I've got 2 behind my house that keep a close eye on my chickens
They spend a good amount of time trying to figure out how to get one.

nature is fascinating
when we have an acorn boom, we have a squirrel boom. when we have a squirrel boom, we have owls. they are fun to watch and their conversations at dusk are hilarious

I am by no means an expert or even close to sounding like an owl, but when they get to going back and forth I will chime in as well.
It's close enough where there's usually an awkward pause then both owls sound off in a different tone. Like WTF invited that guy.

We have a few owls, that I know of, in the nearby woods. I live rural area.
Would a owl house attract more or just leave as is?
