I live in south baton rouge, in an area off of South Harrell's Ferry.

The house was built 40 years ago, on some acreage, but I want to know what the land was used for a long time ago.

There were some raised bed looking things and no one had ever built there to my knowledge.

I have seen plenty of old maps of BR, but this is some obscure piece of land in St. George. Any ideas?

Try this LINK site.

I think the EBR library also has old maps of the parish, but I couldn't find a link.

Google earth pro can get you back to 1989 but that isn't old enough if it was built on 40 years ago.

LSU has old aerial photography dating back to 1940. There is a charge I think of $20 per aerial.

You could have a title company run a title search for you for a couple hundred bucks to get all recorded maps and deeds. Wouldn't have aerial info though.

You can play around with it. Type in the address and they show satellite images from the 50's in some areas. Topographic maps, that show homesites and building. It`s free

Also, let me come metal detect it. I might find some old shite.

I use this one, it's great, but the years aren't 100% accurate. My neighborhood was built in the late 90's but it's still farmland when I check it out.

Aero-Data, a company based in BR has an extensive library of old aerial photographs.
Might be $$.

Or you could check with the LA Forestry Commission or other ag based agencies that pre satellites would routinely have aerial photos taken. They may have some archived.

FYI, if they are raised beds in uniform rows it is probably old cotton fields or pine plantations.

There is a map in the old lsu library on campus...museum now ...by Exxon square...
It is very big and on the wall... it has all the plantations ...owners and past owner of small tracts of land throughout the state.. they also have other old maps...FYI it is cool to walk into and imagine what t must have been like when it was the library on campus...

I agree with post mentioning the LSU historical library. Mr. Anderson does a good job for a very reasonable cost (about $20 a year I believe). Just email him a KMZ file of the area you are interested in.

Aero-Data is very good and has a large library, but you will be paying probably a few hundred per year.

Get a metal detector, or shovel. Make some test plots.
