Electrical and at least Cat 5 or preferably cat 6 behind where you plan to put every tv. All wires ran to a media closet. Router connected to network switch.

We did an extra wide driveway so when the kids start driving we don’t have a daily shuffle of cars to get in and out.

Build a larger garage then your regular “2 car garage.” I built a 24x24 and can park a full size truck and suv in there and open car doors all the way.

While I’m the framing process take scrap wood and fill in between studs anywhere u may hang a tv, curtain rod holders, toilet paper holders , etc.

Don’t skimp on insulation. Radiant barrier plywood for roof.

If possible make sure slab for generator is on the same side as main power and gas meter. Cost a lot less if everything is on the same side of the house.

Outlets everywhere and on the wife’s side of the bathroom counter have double outlets.

If you ever think you want an ice machine make sure you plumb for it. I had the plumber put drainage and water hook up for my ice machine in the laundry room. Ice machine is way more efficient in a climate controlled area.

I also installed 1/2” foam insulation board from Lowe’s on all exterior walls and taped the seams before the bricks went up. Overall a cheap idea for a little extra insulation.

I also installed outlets and ran cat 5 and coax everywhere I knew a tv would be on a wall. All wires are hidden behind the wall.

A few outlets in kitchen and bedrooms with the usb port are nice these days.

Extra lighting in the attic and an electrical outlet or two incase you DYI a security camera system. Not having to worry about batteries is nice.

I say it every time I see one of these threads, so sorry if I sound like a broken record, but having all drawers instead of lower cabinets is fabulous! If we ever have to move and not have that again, I would be very sad.

And I don’t mean pull out drawers behind cabinet doors, like in a pantry, which I love in that application. I mean drawers for your pots and pans, for your dishes, for your everything! Regular uppers, of course. I’m not a fan of lots of open shelving, but personal tastes are different.

Lots of outlets in your under cabinet lighting.

Depending on the style of bidet you choose, an outlet near the toilet would’ve saved us some money.

If single story: a door with stairs to the attic, you wouldn't believe how much more useful the attic is when you don't have to use pull down stairs. I also did whole house spray foam so the attic stays about 10 degrees warmer than the house. Again, makes great storage space and gives better options for expansion in the future if needed.

Electrical outlet to plug in a vehicle.
Maybe not for you but down the road on resale, it’ll be relevant

Outlets in the eaves with half of the outlet broken and wired to a switch inside the house for Christmas lights.

Laundry room we built shelves with laundry baskets for each bedroom in the house so when we fold them they go into the basket.

Think about placement of routers and electronics. Place outlets for TV's and other electronics in those areas. The router needs to be planned so where the intake of your internet feeds into your house.
