Anyone have any info on reasonable cost estimating methods for interior painting of a new construction home? 4BR, 3.5 Bath with Office and Gameroom. 4,050 total square feet with 10’ and 12’ ceilings and crown molding throughout. The suggested budget from my builder seems awfully high…

The cost of paint has gone up a lot. How many gallons are you talking?

I remember about shitting my pants when I got my bill from our painter when we built 5 years ago. We paid about 15k for a 3k sqft house. 2 rooms had crown molding and we did mostly white.

Walk-in closets in the bedrooms? Linen closets in baths? Pantry in the kitchen?

What kind of shelving in closets and pantry----wood or metal?

How many doors?

Wood trim around windows or boxed in with sheetrock????

The budget is $32k, but that includes any exterior painting. It’s a brick house, only exterior painting required will be soffits and brick on front porch.

Walk-in closets in every bedroom. Two linen closets. Shelving in closets/pantry TBD. There are 22 total interior doors. Wood trim around a total of 25 windows.

Yeah, with all that you are adding $$$$ to the final price.

I kind of figured around 25 doors.

Then you figure in color changes as I'm pretty sure you're not going with one color throughout the house.

That's time cleaning equipment to go from area to area for each color change you decide on.

A smart painter is going to paint all the ceilings first, then take on the walls and trim and that's where the time adds up, especially if changing colors.

New construction like your talking about runs about $6 sq.ft excluding built ins and wood closet shelving. We charge an extra on that at $150 per sheet of plywood. This price is separate from exterior painting

i’m a builder in BR. if a painter quoted me +5$/sf total area, non-vinyl siding house, i’d tell him to f-off.
i’m paying $4.75/sf total area on wood/hardi exterior houses.
