Who have you guys used for insurance during your new construction build and what kind of pricing should we expect?
Also, any suggestions on inspectors for the buld process. We are building in the central lafourche area.

Our builder has insurance that covers the house until turned over.

I purchased builders risk insurance through a local insurance agent. There should be independent inspection companies around you that can do all inspections (pre-pour, pre-drywall, final). Check if you need permits/inspections from the local building department.

Are you your own General Contractor/Builder?

I just used State Farm for a builders risk policy. I saw new construction homes completely destroyed during hurricane Laura so don’t skimp on this.
For inspections I just used the parish inspector and I walked through it with him each time. I had a list of things I noticed that I asked him about. Some he said were fine and others he said needed to be fixed.
I used a contractor that is a friend but even then he doesn’t catch everything or dismissed stuff I wasn’t sure about. My FIL is also a sub so I used him to do walk throughs weekly.

My GC maintained the insurance during the build. I don't recall if I had a separate policy or not. I know I owned the lot for about a year before the build and I had a liability policy on the lot, but I don't know that I got any specific insurance for the build beyond what my GC got.
Did you have an architect do you plans? Part of my architect's fee was for construction supervision. I believe he did 4 walk throughs during various phases of construction do to an inspection and write a report.

We used Aubert's insurance in Covington. Building in Thibodaux and the parish sends and inspector at certain points along the way.

These prices in materials is ridiculous. Just started 3 days ago and my material estimate jumped 20k in 2 weeks.

If you know the local inspector is a pain in the arse, the independent might be a consideration, but otherwise, I wouldn’t bother. They charge $75-100 per inspection, which can add up over the course of a job.
Also, the last independent I used was an even bigger PITA than the parish guys. Had me jumping though hoops about a window that wasn’t tempered and didn’t need to be by code. Gave him the evidence he was wrong and he dug in his heels even more. We finally worked it out and he acted like he was doing me a favor.
