Need a new weedeater and I haven't bought one in a decade. Anything to stay away from? How are the baterry powered ones?

I have an ego battery powered one and love it. Probably should have gone with the combo edger/weedeater

Stay away from curved shaft models.
I’ve used a battery ego on a subdivision lot and couldn’t finish with the 56v 2.5ah battery, would take close to two of them. Give me a gas model all day. Currently running shindiawa but have acres also. Dont buy from the big box stores, also.

I have the 40volt Husqvarna. It works great, but if you have a lot to keep up you will have to charge before the job is done. I'd like the one I have a lot better if I could swap the head to an easy wind head. The manual and everything says not to, but I may just try one day.

Stihl fsa85. I’ve had it for 8 + years. Just replaced the motor. Runs strong.

I maintain about an acre and a half with a 250' ditch and several really large oaks. I got a Kobalt 80v battery trimmer for Christmas and have used it about 3 months now and have been extremely pleased. The last time I used it I forgot to put it on the charger and I was still able to use it for about 20 after using it for nearly an hour the previous week. It's relatively lightweight and very powerful. Before that I used a Stihl Kombi trimmer/edger/blower combo for about 10 years with solid results. It still runs by the way it could use a carb rebuild and a new string trimmer attachment.

Last year I wrapped my gasoline unit around a tree in the front yard and replaced it with a 56V Ego. I have no regrets at all for going with battery unit. The Ego is no lighter than the gas powered, but it is infinitely more dependable. I like it so much, that I bought a 56V Ego chainsaw for cutting limbs.

This...
The Ryobi is not as powerful as a gas powered trimmer, but it is so much easier. You plug in the battery and go.
It does everything I need it to do.

Echo SRM-225 , EGO is lighter and nice but not as powerful.

I have nothing but positives regarding my 60v series of Greenworks tools. Everything I have has been purchased via their website during holiday specials. Blower, weedeater, chainsaw, and 21" mower. I wouldn't go less than the 60v series or Ego 56v
IF you can hold off until Memorial Day you may save a nickel.
I just got my chainsaw on Easter sale. 60v saw with 5.0ah battery and rapid charger for $179

Echo or Stihl
The Echo SRM-225 is typically homeowners top choice for gas powered trimmers.
I have a Stihl FS94R and it’s been solid.
One thing to consider is if you need an edger too, might be worthwhile to get a combination unit with changeable heads.

This and Truefuel and you will be good for 8+ years.

How big of a lot are we talking? Gas and electric both serve a purpose. I got the carbon fiber EGO weed eater with a 4.0 Ah battery that also lasts a good bit of time in my push mower when necessary. I believe i can get at least 45 minutes weedeatig on double. Need to check the specs.

Weird that people down vote things like this.

The Echo PAS-225 is just as great as the Echo SRM-225 and more versatile since it has the power head to convert to many other yard tools. I used the string trimmer attachment all day today on my wooded acreage. I'll be using it for a solid two more days straight. I've had mine several years now, use it quite a bit and only with True Fuel. I really abuse my trimmer as I weed eat with sticks, limbs, rocks, leaves, and dust flying all over the place. I use a shoulder harness to hold/balance the weight of the trimmer, and it would be dangerous if I also didn't wear chainsaw chaps, leather gloves, dust mask and a Husqvarna Technical Helmet with screened face guard. I'm under constant machine gun fire of sticks flying at me and bouncing off trees, etc and hitting me. It's also hot doing this for hours straight in all of the protective gear, but it keeps me safe. The Echo PAS 225 is a reliable versatile beast, especially with the string trimmer and brush cutter attachments. I run the this tool solid for hours at a time. It runs just as well as when I bought it.
