I have an older dishwasher at 48 yrs old but still looks good after a couple cosmetic upgrades. Likes to be loaded hard if she is feeling good. Talks way too much.

My Frigidaire is giving me problems so I’m definitely following this thread

It wasn’t drying or really cleaning my dishes so I figured the heating element went out. Changed that and still no difference. Changed the thermostat as well and still didn’t fix it. By the time I get a service tech out here I might as well just get a new one. It’s 6 years old

How hot is the water getting to it? What kind of soap are you using?
Those two variables cause a lot of not cleaning well complaints.

Dishwashers last a long time and repairs are usually simple. Newer ones are typically much quieter and use much less water but take much longer to clean your dishes. That’s kind of the tradeoff you’re looking at. I wouldn’t worry about brand dependability as much as matching your kitchen and getting a good price.

Kitchenaid is the top American brand but whirlpool and maytag will get you similar features for less.

FYI - Whirlpool is the parent company of all three of those brands

Room temperature. The heating element is not coming on

I assume it’s the control board?

This one has good ratings and matches our oven. When our old LG shits the bed this one will take its place.

From the reviews I've read, when you get over the $600-700 mark you go into a higher level of quality and more years of serviceable life. That doesn't necessarily hold true for every single one of them but the majority of higher-end units will likely have more robust build quality.

I have also heard the same about Bosch and higher end Kitchenaid units standing out over others.

Avoid GE.

The builder provided GE failed within 3 years. Replaced with Bosch, and nary a problem. I think I got the second cheapest Bosch they had at Lowes/HD.

Kitchen Aid has been good here. No problems with it and it seems like that brand and Bosch receive good recs in new dishwasher posts.

Happy with our Bosch, but none of these new dishwashers dry worth a shite, just FYI.

we've had a K/A since 2009 and no issues.
HOWEVER, the coated tines that separate the plates etc are starting to rust and break off. New dish racks are pretty expensive.
