maybe maybe not depends on volume, content and location. That’s why you hire this out…if the dirt guy needs the fill elsewhere or he has a buyer for it that will be accounted for in his price for the job. He will have resources and solutions not available to the property owner

I might be missing something here, but won't you have to backfill from the retaining wall to the pool deck to be level? Don't underestimate how much dirt that will actually be.

I'm Baton Rouge, and in need of some dirt. The issue will be logistics, as I can only move 1/2 a yard at a time, and only on weekends.

As someone already mentioned, paying someone to haul off the excess dirt as part of the construction will be the easiest way to get rid of it.

In the city, I take it to the lansscape yard down the street and pay about $20 per truckload (1.5 yd or so long bed) to dump it and then they sell it to the next guy for another $20-30. Good business.

Contact a few landscapers in your area who actually have a storage yard and ask what they would charge you to load your pile and haul off. If one really needs clean fill or topsoil, they may do it for free.
