Went out of town for 10 days. thought my pool (salt, gunite) would be ok for a couple weeks. Temperature was moderate, not hot or cold. I got back and tested it and my alk was over 200 and Ph was well over 8. Took me like 6 gallons of acid over like 10 days to get everything back in order. Thought i dodged a bullet, but i've gotten a bit of yellow algae growth. It's called mustard algae and is apparently a bear to get rid of. I'm in the middle of a "SLAM" with chlorine at 25 ppm. Anyone ever had this and had success getting rid of it?

Thanks

What’s your CYA?

The SLAM process will kill it. Just keep it up until you pass an overnight chlorine loss test.

I haven’t had mustard algae since I started the trouble free pool method

I did have it bad before that though. And I used a yellow algaeicde with the ingredient sodium bromide that worked good. They sell several yellow algae chemicals at the pool store but the one with sodium bromide worked.

Wow. I have a new saltwater pool. The PH will climb constantly and will get over 8. A 1/4gallon will bring it back to mid 7's

I used to abandon my pool for the winter and algae did it's thing. 14,000 gallon pool and I'd dump a half pound of pure copper sulfate in and circulate. All algae was dead in 24-48 hours.

Vacuumed that out, and Hit it with a startup sized measurement of Eclipse 2 and shock and chlorine tabs

Pool was crystal clear.

Eclipse 2 cut down on all my other chemicals by half.

Mine wont come down that fast. I need at least half a gallon. But my saltwater generator will not keep up if I dont keep stabilizer added a few times a year, especially on bright bluebird conditions.

I'm not sure why, but I do not have a lot of confidence in the taylor test kits. It seems as though I have to put more drops into the samples than I should be. Maybe my kit has expired (3 years old)? I hear the test strips, albeit much easier and much quicker to use, are not accurate and yet when I use them (AquaChek 7) and keep everything in the "good" sections, my pool is crystal clear. So I wonder if they are more accurate than their reputation would lead me to believe? Is there a third testing option that is not only easy, but accurate?

They recommend replacing reagents annually especially if you don’t store them inside in a cool/dry environment.

Test strips are no where near as accurate as reagent kits.

I promise the labs at the plants around here aren’t using test strips lol.

TftTestkits

This hands down. Couple different kits depending on chlorine or salt.

I have the pro salt kit with magic stir. It’s really nice kit. Everything in a nice storage case. Larger reagent size than normal.

They also run sales at the beginning of the season to refresh your kit each year.
