Is MSM Turf the best herbicide to use on VBW?

Do you spot spray with MSM or spray the entire yard??
I used celcius for spot spray in front yard, and completely sprayed the back yard (with celcius). Back was/is overrun and I'm trying to get it under control. Had a new puppy last year who liked to chew grass and I was afraid to put anything on the lawn so the weeds got a good head start on me. Ceclcius definitely worked well on the buttonweed especially after 2nd treatment about a month apart. Hopefully I see less of it next year with help of pre emergents. Trying to tighten up my game.

Good to hear Celcius works on VBW as I just sprayed a few patches that I had a few days ago with it. How long before it showed signs of dying off?

I've always heard that it is, largely because it's about the only thing you can spray when you need it most (July-August).

I've seen great results spot spraying in our 100+ degree summer, and the St. Aug still looks fantastic.

Thanks for the response. May go ahead and order a bottle.

Spectracide Weed Stop comes in verious application forms. VBW is listed. Mix the concentrated version in a gallon tank sprayer to spot spray. You may need to plan on hitting it a few times as needed.

What dilution rate do you use?? I bought the 6.4g packet and I believe I'm supposed to mix that with 2 gallons of water. Is that correct??

Is this the packet you're referring to? LINK

If so, low rate would be 1 packet per 4 gallons, mid rate would be 1 packet per 2.75 gallons, and high rate would be 1 packet per 2 gallons. I've always done 1 packet per 2 gallons which would be the most potent.

That's a good price. I always have a packet or two on hand at all times - it's very convenient.

Within about a week I'd say. Make sure you reapply about 4 weeks later.

MSM Turf (metsulfuron methyl), Celsius and Fertilome Weed Free Zone (SpeedZone Southern) are all effective herbicides for controlling VBW. You have restrictions on using WFZ at temperatures exceeding 85 F as it will damage desirable lawn grass. MSM Turf and Celsius can be used in the heat of summer.

One will get much better control of VBW when spraying it as it first emerges in late spring, as opposed to when it matures and has the characteristic small white flowers.

As a perennial weed, it invariability requires multiple sprays several weeks apart to keep it in check. You should use a surfactant (spreader sticker) in the herbicide solution to increase the herbicide absorption rate into the waxy foliage.

IIRC you have to treat for VBW in the spring.

1/8 teaspoon per gallon. NO MORE! Any stronger it will burn St. Aug. VBW foliage will turn purple in 2-3 weeks. Be patient.

You need to use surfactant with celcius, at least that's what I've been told.
