Mower Robot Recommendations

My parents are getting older and really need to get away from mowing. They have two zero-turn mowers they could probably sell for $10k or so. I think they should consider selling these and buying a robot mower. They need to cover about 4 acres. The main obstacles are trees and some slopes on one end of the house that may be difficult.
I know nothing about these things as far as what are name-brands that provide quality products. Not looking for something cheap. Looking for something that WILL get the job done and will last. Any suggestions?

Have heard a few people with Navimow mowers. Probably more of the high end models. They look to be excellent. I don't know too much about them though. Maybe one day.

I will start there. Thank you!

I have a navimow, but for four acres I would look for one of the bigger models from other vendors, or possibly 2 or more to cover that much space. They will need to be able to pick the robot up, they are wonderful but not full proof. Mine was under a bush when I got home today... it should go no where near the bush it was under... its a brilliant dummy.

I think the 4-acre size will eliminate the NaviMow and might drive your brand choices.

Man, you don’t think it would be a better option for them to keep the zero turn and just hire some high school to run it for $15 per hour?
I have seen robot mowers, but they were much smaller scale than one that could mow 4 acres. My concern with buying that size is it gonna cost a hell of a little of cash and if it doesn’t work, you won’t be able to sell it for much.

I think that is a great option but there aren't any kids around where they are. Just hiring a service at some point is probably what they'll do, hopefully. I have a classmate still in the area that owns his own lawn company. I think if they gave him the john deere zero turns he would do the lawn for free as long as needed.

I have found Yarbo. They have one that can do 6 acres for $4k. Really solid reviews. Seems like the only choice so far.

Are robot mowers a target for thieves, or are they useless without the control box?

Good question. I have no idea. My parents live out in the middle of nowhere and you can't just drive by their house. So while you bring up a great consideration, I dont think it is a worry in my situation.

I bet one that can cover 4 acres is quite expensive and/or has to recharge in the middle of mowing and resume.
And what happens if it gets stuck or goes AWOL? Can your folks handle that? I know my elderly parents are technologically illiterate and I bet a bigger one is quite heavy.
I'd just hire a service.

I have a mammotion Luba 2 10000
I had to send it in for warranty work after 600 miles of cutting.
It accidentally backed into a drainage ditch. Something hung up a rear wheel and it attempted to back up, pivoted and went in about a foot of water for a few hours lol
Drove it out manually. Rear wheel locked up 40ish miles later. They sent a box. I dropped it in there, mailed it. Got it back a week later fully serviced and good to go.
It's mowing 3 acres right now.
It costs me 5 gallons of gas to mow with zero turn. That's 15-20 dollars a week. The Luba has a negligible effect on electric bill. So it saves me 1k a year. If I get to three years and it does after warranty, I still came out ahead

Useless if stolen.
Also pop an air tag in it. It has its own gps, a camera, and alerts you the second it is moved outside of bounds. The air tag is just for thieves to think they disabled tracking.
A family member who didn't understand thought they were being helpful by moving it away from the nearest road as "no one was watching it" I called and gave them an ear full about 20 seconds after the front wheels left the ground.

That is similar to my parents situation. They have a time of use electric rate where any electricity usage from midnight to 6am is around $0.015 to $0.02/kWh. Just the savings in gas would be pretty noticeable.
