This patch of grass was contacted by a power line that snapped late last year. It has been making good progress growing back but I notice slight raised areas the other day and figured it could have been mower tracks. Ventured out to see some shallow tunnels this evening. Is it moles? Best remedy?

moles or voles
usually they are the little small brown ones

you can leave them be or if you have a dog he will take care of them. Otherwise you have to use insecticide to kill the grubs they are digging for

Normally I leave animals be but this tunnel where I circled in red has trailed off and the grass above is turning yellow. I may have to kill the grubs.

Definitely moles or voles.

There’s another thread from a day or two ago. Best replies were kill the grins and they’ll move on.

F them all. They sick.

I just sprayed mole/gopher repellent on my yard and it did the trick. It’s made by a company called Victor and attaches to your hose. Lowe’s and home depot sell it.

If you like your neighbor it’s gonna be awkward because the moles are just going to move to that yard.

Do yourself a favor. Kill the grubs. 1. Prevent armadillos from hunting in your yard at night. 2. Reduce the amount of june bugs around your outside lights/porch in the evenings. Win Win.

Cool. Will look into a grub killer. Since I just put down the other granules, will it hurt my lawn if I apply those this afternoon? Also, I planned on fertilizing this week. Is this still a smart plan or too much treatment?

I treat my lawn heavily with insecticides for grubs and other insects and still have the occasional mole or two. I have have found that it helps. But moles also love earthworms. So they still come around. That’s why I also have traps. Got home to find this big fella in one of my traps this afternoon.

I think you just put it in an active tunnel

This.

You have to find an active tunnel and set it up in the middle of it. When they come through the tunnel, they’ll push the dirt up on the trigger and it clamps down on them. You kinda have to learn the way they operate. They usually have a nesting area, feeding area, and a tunnel between the two. I find the key is to set it up on what I like to call the “main corridor”. They’ll usually have a long run that they use to get from one place to another. Find the main one, set it up there, and you should catch them.

ETA: This is the trap I use Wire Tek

I used that spray one summer. They would leave then come back in two weeks. It’s supposed to be something they don’t like the smell of.

OP good luck buddy. I couldn’t get rid of them. I tried everything. I went all Caddyshack trying to rid them from my yard. I dropped so much bug and insect killer on my yard the whole neighborhood probably has cancer. That seemed to work the best by trying to take their food away. A cat or something like a rat terrier can get them but I travel for my job so a pet was not an option. I moved closer to town but I bet those moles are still giving the new owner hell.
