Our home is an older home in Metairie. When it was built, they did not run AC to the laundry room. We also keep our dogs in a gated area attached to the laundry.

I've looked at mini split units and the price seems reasonable. I assume there are costs beyond the $900 units I see online. Tell me about your experience with these kind of units and the hidden costs please.

I just installed an 18k BTU mitsubishi mini split heat pump in our "play room". The actual parts cost was $2300.

Take it FWIW but my A/C buddy will not install anything but mitsubishi or daiken units and only on exterior walls. If you mount them on an interior wall you have to use a condensate pump, which brings on another whole headache/weak link in system.

I had an 18k btu mitsubishi installed in a 500 sf bonus room over the summer. Total cost was $4500. That included some additional conventional ductwork I had done in other parts of house too, though. This was in Baton Rouge

As mentioned, Mitsubishi. I have a 2T mini split in my bonus room and it’s great. Cost was around $3k installed.

Location is very important primarily because of the condensate drain. Mine is over the garage, so somewhat minimal risk to major house impacts if it backs up. There’s also a new shutoff switch they can install in condensate line that will trip the unit if the condensate backs up.

I’m a HVAC technician and Daiken is top of the line. For a laundry room that is minimal in Square footage a 12000BTU 17SEER is more than enough unit to do the job. The warranty on a Daikek is also really good.

Roughly, how much to install a few units in a two story 2300 sq house building 1888 (no space for duct work currently)? Thinking about doing (2) four zone setups to hit the major rooms (four "bedrooms", two baths, open living area and kitchen.

Thoughts on these in a garage? Was thinking about insulating my door with foam board and then slapping one of these in.

Do you have a window? Window unit is way cheaper in a garage area. A mini split would certainly work, but seems overkill unless you’re converting it to a living space.
