Not every plant but yeah some of the thirsty ones need 2 waterings per day when temps are 100F+. But the real benefit comes in the winter when it is impossible to get root rot because your root moisture level is so well controlled.

My dragonfruit has finally started putting on new growth.

Maybe I'll pull my tree and add more sand to the mix.

Man I'm so excited to watch your dragonfruit effort. I know basically zero about this and can't wait to see how it turns out!
Saw this earlier. Got my attention with that crazy price.

Your mix is probably fine. Just have to dial in the watering. What proportion is peat/miracle gro? If 1/3 or less you should be fine. If half or more yeah you need more drainage on this tree.
Also, I've finally found a new bagged soil called Baccto that I can recommend. It's not as good as Gary's, but it's close. Links to both below:

I now know that a Papaya's lower leaves will die as it grows but man, this tree just looks sad.

that’s how it do
yours has way more growth on it than mine ever did, though it looks like it needs a drink

Gosh dang, mine was made from some treated 2x4s and a cattle protien tub I had sitting in the yard already.

That tree is not right. Something about your watering/drainage is wrong. Papaya can take full sun.
Posted on 6/29/25 at 6:44 pm to Tigerlaff
It’s getting worse.
I added a bag of sand to my soil mix and repotted.

Yeah not looking good. Hopefully the drainage fixes it. When a tree drops leaves it's a defense mechanism. When leaves die and stay on the tree you have bigger problems.

Yeah I don’t get it. Was doing great. Planted in same soil as my other mango and avocados and getting the same water and sun. But this one is struggling so bad after it was doing so well. It literally just had a growth spurt. The stuff that’s still green just sprouted last week

How does the graft look? Sometimes you get graft infections if it was not given enough time to heal. Mangos are pretty tough as long as they don't get cold. I bet it bounces back.
Also how many drainage holes in the bottom of that pot? I always recommend injection molded black nursery pots because they have decent drainage from the factory and you can easily drill more holes with a large drill bit. If that thing has a single hole that is very likely the problem.

I drilled 6 1/2” holes in each pot
Will check graft when I get back home. Ran to the gym.

I know it is said they can take full sun but mine would droop terribly in the blast furnace of summer. I moved it to partial shade and it bounced back like a champ. Maybe try that and see what happens
Posted on 6/30/25 at 8:24 am to cgrand
That’s where I moved it to yesterday. Hope so!
Checked the graft. Don’t see any issues.
Where my leaves attach to the stalk is not looking good.

That bacto would be your base soil? I use that to start my veggies
It’s no we’re close to Gary’s mix.
Would need to add sand and more perlite ..probably pumice also

Yes, as a base. It's good because the only organic in it is peat. Nothing I have to worry about becoming a problem later.

They need to get a little size on them before they stop showing signs of heat stress. Mine is in full sun all day and never so much as droops.
