Looking to build a 10X10 deck and wanted to use Ipe wood. First does anyone have any experience with it? Also, where in the BR area can i find it. Talked to a guy with Brazos, but he’s not very good about following up.

Lumber Liquidators used to carry it.

Riverside Lumber in NOLA might be able to help as well.

yeah--I was going to say that Riverside Lumber in NOLA is your best bet.

Ipe is dense/hard. Use a carbide saw blade, for sure.

I have an Ipe deck and this is what I have to say:

I LOVED it when they installed it. It was gorgeous. Then the sun got it.

If you get a lot of sun, expect to have to oil it every 6 months. If it is completely covered and gets NO sun, it'll look great for at least a year maybe a lil longer.

That being said, I wish I had used Ipe on my covered portion and pavers on my steps that are exposed to the sun or just pavers for the whole thing.

Thanks! I contacted them and hopefully they'll be able to help me out.

Brazos didn't have any in stock. They were going to contact their supplier, but it's been over a week and haven't heard a word.

I went to Riverside a couple days ago, didn't see any ipe, but wasn't really looking.

If you don't mind, could you post back with what you find and the price? Was curious how much it would be to do a small back porch.

Did you call Service Lumber near Cortana Mall? Ipe is not listed on their website but would be worth a call anyway as I know they carry some of wood species not listed on their website.

Wonder where my contractor got my Ipe. I saw Ipe at Riverside a week or 2 ago but it was not ready made 6" decking that my contractor installed.

I think Riverside can cut it to whatever you like.

Went and picked up some african mahogany for a frame I am making. Hope it turns out well.

I just picked up some Merbau for a drawer that I'm building for an outdoor console table. Supposed to be like teak at 1/3 the price. I didn't want to use Ipe for the furniture since it was gonna be sitting on the Ipe deck.

I just used some Ipe on an outdoor kitchen. Eat up a saw blade on rips. But it’s beautiful with a clear coat.

Not sure I would spend the money to use it on a deck and have to keep refinishing. At that point go with Azek.

The pics of the Merbau looked amazing. Might be a good option as well.

I bought some from Brazos years ago to build an outdoor kitchen (I liked the fire resistance of Ipe in combination with the appearance). As you know, it's a challenge to work with this wood both cutting it and screwing it (pre-drilling holes and using stainless screws), but the end product is gorgeous. It will require some upkeep after that, but it's basically pressure washing and resealing. Good luck and post pics when you're done.

I bought tigerwood from Advantage lumber in Florida and had it delivered. Even was able to negotiate the price down a little on the phone.

Bring money, lots of money and your firstborn for indentured servitude.

I love Riverside and have bought a lot of quality wood for furniture building projects from them, but they are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination.

Who knows what it will cost now with lumber prices through the roof.

I find they have some good prices, but if they are limited on a certain product it does jack the price up.

Hell, they are undercutting Home Depot on plywood right now.
