Laying sod underneath large trees

Backyard has alot of trees with roots all over the place. Currently there is just kinda mud, moss grass patches. Im thinking about covering it all with maybe some St. Aug sod but dont know if Im wasting time considering the amount of shade and soil conditions are not the best. Only been in the house for a few months so this is first Spring in the house.
Anybody have experience with this?

It is probably not going to take. Maybe just do a small patch and see.

Wasting your time, and money. Even Amerishade is only good for 2 years. Rethink the area, and plan for ground covers or an ornamental gravel. More than likely, the trees are taking too much water away from anything underneath it. This is more of an issue than the shade.

your trees will hate it, you'll hate it, and you will wind up right back where you started. let the shady ares work for you, dont fight them.
liriope, monkey grass, cast iron plant all do great in shady areas. if it were me i'd get a truckload of shredded bark and spread it out thick

Cast Iron Plants are great... Other times I have used old ferns, Especially around somewhere I don't want to have to cut or trim...

yes
we bought a few potted boston ferns and put them out under a few of our trees. they've naturalized out of the pots now and look great

Monkey grass has spread out in large patches under my live oaks. I just mow it and it looks pretty good. If I was industrious, I would put plugs of it all around under my trees and actually encourage it to grow and completely fill in.

I have a neighbor that put a lot of st Aug under 2 trees in their front yard where they had dirt spots. I don’t even think they watered them that well at first but they seem to have taken ok and greened up. I doubt they last but I’ll let you know.

We have monkey grass under our live oaks. It is great, it grows to the same uniform height, blocks out all the weeds and prevents it from getting too muddy. The ground still gits soft but it is a hell of a lot better than what the neighbor does having mud under his side because he is too dumb to just let the monkey grass grow, I don't know why he cuts it own every week. If he would just let it grow you can't see the leaves and it isn't a soggy mess and it doesn't look bad.
