I second buying new carb. Too easy and 1000% effective.

Let us know that it was the spark plug when you can.

I had to replace one on one of my Honda generators this past summer. Pretty easy. Never figured out what was wrong with the old one but need to mess with it some more.

It's not the spark plug. Red X on your man card as well.

Take some welding tip cleaners and clean your jets in your carb.

If it runs for a couple of seconds, it isn’t the spark plug.
If it was the spark plug it would not crank at all.

Go on Amazon and buy a new carb kit. Should come with a carb, gaskets, air filter and spark plug. Very easy to change and way easier than trying to clean jets on your current carb.

UPDATE:
I removed the carb and cleaned it up with Gumout, also flushed out the gas tank. Put it all back together and it fired right up. Lesson learned, even with Sta-Bil and Non-ethanol gas I still need to start the mower a few times during the off season.
Thanks for all the help.

or run it until empty(drain it) at the end of the season.

Float may be stuck down when you turn the gas back on.
No good way to deal with it besides running it regularly.

There is:
These cheap little inline valves work great, just close the valve, walk away and let the mower run itself out of fuel every time you use it. If my equipment didn't come with one already I put one on myself. Nice thing is, if for some reason you forget to empty a tank before letting the equipment sit, you only have to deal with the fuel in the tank and not the crud that got pushed into the carb. My Honda mower and TB leaf vacuum do not tolerate stale gas at all, even a week and they are hard to start. Using the fuel valve and they start in one or two pulls every time.

I've had two instances of generators with the float valves stuck open after sitting with no gas in the carb for a few months. Taking the bowl off and jiggling the float a few times clears it up but it's still a thing to be done.
Nowadays, mine get a shot of TCW3 (1oz per 5 gal) and marine stabil for long term storage. That has been serving me very well the past two years.

I use Stabil Marine or 360 but use MMO mixed into some 4-stroke True Fuel as a flush for end of season storage and stuff that is only used occasionally like the chipper shredder. Will be a little smoky when it's started again but it does smell good...

I just go out once every couple of months and crank my shite for a minutes. I don’t understand why that’s so hard. It doesn’t take long and it’s not like we’re living in Alaska where it’s -10 for months on end. There’s a few warm days every month. Just go out and make sure your shite runs.

It takes me about 20 minutes to take the carb off, clean it, put it back on and have the generator running.
Its become a challenge to see how long I can let it sit and it still work. Absolutely worst possible case, I have to pull the carb and flash the field. No big deal.
I need to start writing it down. It hasn't run since that storm we had last summer.
