Wasn’t sure where to post this but I feel terrible. We got a brand new kitten to be an outside cat at the farm. Kept it near by for the first day and made sure it was comfortable.

One of the dogs got loose and went after the kitten pinning it down. And then chased it behind the shop. Dog came back but kitten has been gone since.

I feel so terrible. I know cats are survivors. I put some food and it’s kennel out behind the shop in hopes it’d come around and eat. Anyways, just needed to tell someone how crappy I felt.

I feel you, tough when they are your responsibility no matter the animal or circumstances. I feel like shite when one of our chickens gets gone.

I've never had any luck turning a cat into an outdoor cat, outdoor cats just sort of adopt us so can't help on if it will come back around.

In my experience, if you want an outdoor cat, all you have to do is put out some cat food for about three nights. They are everywhere at night!

Gee, I can't understand why. You get a brand new kitten, put it outside with some food and water, dog gets loose and pins it to the ground and chases it behind an outbuilding, likely scaring the crap out of it-------if the dog didn't maim or kill it outright, and now the cat is nowhere to be found.

Ungrateful little bastard...................

Where are you at?

There's a litter of feral kittens that I've been seeing on my cameras at night. I could probably trap one for you.

Probably best to ask your local shelter for a barn barn cat. Many have them. A baby kitten can’t just survive being tossed out on its own. Sorry that happened.

The one by us is run by crazy people; apparently they won’t let you adopt if the cat is to be kept outside, free range.

I’ve seen some shelters asking if anyone needs barn cats. So they are likely more feral vs a pet. I guess it depends on location. Probably more common in rural areas. But for a pet cat, yes. Most shelters won’t adopt to an outside home.

How old is the kitten?
You really need to go searching for him.

If you were to get adult cats to use as barn cats you would have been required to keep them enclosed for 2 weeks to acclimate to the surroundings. A kitten requires more time and security - as others said put food out etc. If it comes back I would keep it inside somewhere and also until it is fully vaccinated since it will be exposed to wildlife.
