Installing a tankless water heater

I’m actually surprised that these seem to have come down in price. Our water heater in our new house is past its expected life so we are preparing to have that be the first appliance we replace.
Anybody replaced a regular electric water heater with a tankless? Is this something that shouldn’t be an issue or am I likely to run into one with my electrical panel. We have a 200 amp service with a brand new panel.

You planning to install an electric tankless, or are you switching to gas?

I replaced 2 50 gal gas water heaters with 1 tankless in January 2019. Love it and would not go back. Our original was not electric, but the tankless is electric with gas supply.

Same. Replaced two tanks with one tankless. It’s not cheap by any means, still costed us 7k

My plumber told us an electric tankless would not work well with my family of five. He suggested gas or propane. it did cost a good bit, but it has been great.

Plumbers have always recommended against electric tankless when I have inquired. I had a gas tankless installed in my last house. The pricy part wasn't the unit, but having a larger gas line run to the install location.

I had to replace my water heater last year and I was surprised I could get a tankless for less than a tank. I replaced the tank easily, and just had to adjust water pipe and gas feed pipe lengths. Was simple and the only thing that is very slightly annoying is it takes a bit longer for water to get hot at the bathrooms.

I only have propane tanks to the house. Not sure how I’d get it to where our water heater is. So switching may be out of the question.

I wouldn’t go electric tankless. We have a tankless on propane and love it. It’s outside and had no problems with the freeze. Very easy to drain and restart.

I replaced a gas tanked with gas tankless 18 months ago. Took me over a day to do solo, but was pretty easy overall. I had the luxury of a working tanked, so I could take my time and only had a couple of hours down, when switching the gas line and water line.
I got a Rinnia with a built in recirculating pump and wifi. It's awesome, because I have it on a schedule to start recirculating hot water at 0600 for morning showers. Hot water gets to the shower in 10 seconds with the recirculation, 70 seconds without. Also, I have a push button next to the shower, that will start the circulation. Great for a shower outside of the schedule. App on phone will also start recirculation, adjust temp, or put it in vacation mode.
I would have chosen another tanked if I could, but the moron who finished my basement trapped the old one in a closet with too small of a door to remove and replace. Tankless was my only option without removing a door frame and sheetrock work.
I don't think I would go tankless electric. Not sure there's any benefit over the tanked.
