Icemaker Stopped Suddenly...

Is there anything I can look at as a potential fix so I can get my icemaker up and running again? Fridge is a Whirlpool counter depth stainless jobber.
Never had an issue with it until now.

Look and see if any cubes are stuck in the mechanism.

Got a pic below of the ice tray thing. It looks like it just fills with water and then dump the cubes once they're frozen. I can't really get to anything, or really tell what's going on.

Maybe try turning that switch on?

Is that a plastic ice tray or is that ice we're looking at?

It's on. Turned it off for a little and then back on.
I knew I shouldn't have taken that pic with the switch turned off

Once again, the switch has been on, and is on currently. Still no ice.

Look up the type of ice maker on that model refrigerator. Then locate a trouble shooting guide .....If the tray for ice cubes is not filling with water ....it may be a frozen supply line.

remove the screws and take out the icemaker. They are replaceable units. Let it defrost, in case there is ice built up somewhere causing the issue.
There will be an "arm" of some sort that tells the unit the ice bucket is full. That arm might be stuck in the up position. Might be able to simply pull it down a bit. Typically, they are designed so you can "lock" it in the up position to remove the bucket to dump all the ice.

try wiggling that bar on the right, it might be stuck. also sometimes the water inlet can freeze over. I have a frigidaire that stopped making ice a couple days ago. wiggling that bar started it back up.

I have a similar Whirlpool. Mine suddenly stopped working and the issue was that the wire harness that runs from the bottom of the door up to the ice maker will wear out some wires overtime and they break. So I inspected the wires and sure enough a couple had gotten frayed from opening/closing. Spliced the wires together and it started working again.
It’s a common issue. Lots of videos out there on it. YouTube, etc. the issue is that maybe they made the wires too tight, could’ve been slightly longer, so the pulling causes them to break.

You can run a diagnostics on the ice maker if you look up the model you have. It'll tell you if something is broken or if it just needs a code reset. You can unplug the whole machine and turn it back on.
It's more likely that the ice maker crapped out on you. I'm on my 2nd broken one in less than two years. They suck. You can spend around $100 for a new replacement tray.

Flip the breaker off for a minute, then back on. See if it resets.

Put a thermometer in there if you can fit one and see what the air temp is around it. I know with LGs, they will not make/dump ice unless the air temp around the ice tray is at or below a certain point.

I just replaced my ice maker in a Whirlpool Fridge because the rake would not turn to dump the ice. I used a hair dryer to free up the rake and it turned, dumped ice, returned to normal position and water filled the tray. It worked off and on for the next 2 weeks. After a while it quite cycling. I replaced the unit and all is well. They crap out but YouTube is full of troubleshooting and repair vids.

Different make, but mine was a water filter, had just changed it, and it quit working, the new filter caused a water pressure drop. Changed to another brand water filter , back in business !

Alright baws, got ice again. Wound up replacing the water valve. My water line leading into the freezer was frozen solid. From the research I did, it appears that the culprit to this happening is leakby from the water valve, which allows a slow trickle of water into the water line that fills the ice tray in the freezer. That makes sense at least.
Anyway, thawed out the line with a blow dryer (that took awhile) and replaced the valve. Did the factory test using the hidden switch underneath the ice maker and it started filling with water again.
It was about a three beer job

Man I thought for sure you’d come back and thank me for the info on the frayed wires. Whirlpools seem to be sketchy on the ice makers. But we do love the type of ice they make. Will keep this in mind if I ever have other issues with mine.
