Cheaper for builder. Probably $1,000-$2,000 less in cabinets and another $1,500 less, or more in appliances.

Its just awful. Makes it feel like an apartment.

it's just awful. They don't work for crap. Your house smells like whatever you are cooking and eventually the cabinets and microwave get covered in a greasy film.

Not knowing your full circumstances I would offer this advice to someone that wants 2 ovens and a gas cooktop-

Get a freestanding gas range and then a wall oven/microwave combo. It gets you 2 ovens and saves space. Since you only put a cooktop you will have semi-usable cabinet space underneath. If you can afford to lose that cabinet space, a slide in range with a separate wall oven/micro is the way to go.

I wish I could find a way to swing a double oven but I feel like it was make my kitchen feel small if I lose that counterpace. I'm already gonna have to do a microwave drawer in my island which I don't really care for

Ooh, I'd love to have a French door oven! Nice choice.

I disagree. Below our gas cooktop are two roomy drawers. Top one holds my skillets and bottom one holds a couple of dutch ovens and some saucepans of varying sizes.

More than that, much more. You can drop $15,000 on appliances very easy with bottom of the line “high end” appliances. $7,500 cabinet depth fridge, $5000 stove, $1500 built in microwave, $2000 vent hood, $1500 cabinet fronted dishwasher. Etc. That’s not even trying to spend money and almost bottom of the barrel for ‘built ins’. You can double that or more fairly easily.

All the while a standard appliance set from Home Depot is like $4000. So there’s a huge range in between there.

Yes OP the trim kits are just the ‘fronts. You are going to just need to get a small microwave that sits on that shelf or build the cabinet out more.

this is my cabinet under the cook top. i’ll do
a full thread on the kitchen after i get the backsplash and appliances installed

the top drawer opens as well but i need to notch it out since it gets stuck with the cook top

hmm looks like top drawer may have to be a dummy drawer since the gas connection is falling right on the slide...

I'm so used to a microwave at eye level. It seems weird to look down or bend down to see what's going on in my microwave.

I'm planning my kitchen remodel now and thinking I'm going to do a regular trimmed microwave in the island. Mistake over a drawer?

I absolutely love my cabinet mounted/ trimmed microwave. Its at eye level and a normal door open. I hate the drawer type for stuff you want to look at like melting butter or whatever. But that's just me.
