I’m not. Not even close. I’m a dad on a budget with 3 small kids that can’t sleep in the heat. The ACs are $250 each and I might need 3.

Might be moot, coil might be available today. Y’all can calm down. Also bringing politics into every conversation is exhausting.

price seems legit but if the unit is 8 yrs old then just replace it, the new higher efficiency is worth the investment.

its rare if things are the same after replacing a coil because the way replacements fit are often sloppy and screws get rusty and strip.

I’m unfortunately all too familiar with evaporator coil as my A/C has been out due to bad evaporator coil leak for 20 days. Tomorrow will mark 3 full weeks with no A/C

My home warranty (Old Republic) is in the process of replacing, but was unable to locate replacement evaporator coil and has now authorized tech to replace entire air handler. Only out of pocket expense for me is $100 service call from initial inspection. It’s been a headache to say the least dealing with the home warranty co, but if I end up with a new air handler relatively soon it was probably worth the wait

BTR A/C - who regularly Sevices my A/C - was first one out before I involved home warranty and quoted me $3000 for new evaporator coil (estimated wait time on part 5 weeks), and they also quoted me $6000 for new Trane air handler (no wait). I very quickly said no way to them, and promptly called my home warranty co.

That said, from all my research in the last 3 weeks, $1500-2500 is about the range for changing out evap coil

Also in the meantime I’ve gotten quotes for an entire new system (Cond+AirHandler) and the quotes have ranged from $5500 (American standard) to $7500 (Carrier/Bryant, TempPro) to $13000 (Rheem, AccuTemp)

I'm getting the new coil put in as we speak. Got one next day from a Trane warehouse so I guess we're lucky. Went out 2 days ago and it'll be back online this afternoon.

$2,100 final cost all in. He's an honest dude and said that I should probably just replace it and not get a new one because I could get 6-7 years out of it he thinks.

Also I asked about warranty and he said it didn't transfer homeowners. That sucks.

2 words...Home Warranty!

frick that.

Home warranty would be $200 for the freon, $175 to bring (insert random thing) up to code, $75 service charge, and another issue popping up 2 months later.

That’s good. We paid about $2,700 in the fall with a 10 year parts and labor warranty.

How much can he save with the higher efficiency unit? Most hvac coils are soldered/brazed not screwed.

Trane sucks..corporate requires you pay for repair and send them the bill before they will assign any complaints for further review ...WTF.Nothing makes you run away in the future..Like a Trane!

That is how some of the big brands, along with some of the contractors and supply houses screw you to not honor the warranty and make a sale. Your A/C contractor COULD help you out, and I know for fact some supply houses don't make a big deal about you not being the original owner. It's rarely even reported, nor required to be reported. There is almost no way that a manufacturer would know that the original registered homeowner isn't getting the warranty. I know quite a few manufacturers who even offer to transfer the warranty for a small fee.

BS! I had my entire system changed about 5 years ago and it only cost me my deductible of $60. American Hone Shield
