How to kill mistletoe?

I had no idea mistletoe was parasitic, but it's choking out a cedar elm in my front yard and now it's gotten to my hackberry in the back as well.
Used to just be in one spot but it looks like it's spread through most of the trunk. Any ideas?

shite was suffocating a few of my hollies from the inside and I had no idea.
I had to manually get in there (scratched to shite) and pull it all out and constantly do that for months until I got it all.

Cut it out with garden shears or a tree trimming saw if the branches are too big for the shears.

If you're lucky it will kill it. But the hackberry sprouts will still come up in your yard for a decade or more afterward.
Ran across this from an arborist:

: I have spent enough time dealing with headaches caused by hackberry trees that I have very little tolerance or personal appreciation for them. In fact, I consider them a real nuisance. Hackberry is a fast-growing (and fast-dying), weak-wooded, moisture-loving species that is prone to heavy infestations of mistletoe and is very poorly behaved in general.

The old trick for clearing shooting lanes for your ladder stand.
12 gauge and a few boxes of shells.

This is what I came here to post. I'm in the process of cutting out about 25 hackberries from my property. they're all infested with mistletoe. Their limbs grow so retarded. It sucks I have so many of them, but I'm going to plant 10 or 15 pecans in my pasture area and hopefully a few of them survive.

Was coming to post this. My dad used to shoot it down to decorate the house at Christmas time.
