As others have said, you can get a rain sensor, but in my experience, they crap out pretty easily
I never put a rain sensor on my Rachio. The app will pull rain data from the web from weather stations around the area. It will then delay the schedule if it has been raining over a threshold you can set.

All of this
Rain sensors generally suck
Free accurate rainfall adjusting is where it’s at

the other downside is i pay someone to winterize and open it so i would need to be home to let them in to test the system out when they come out but no big deal there. its only twice a year.
I don’t think Rachio can be controlled from the controller (I’ve never needed to use it), so they would have to use the app, or just open the valves manually to test it.

so i finally got around to installing it..aside from a nasty surprise because whoever installed the rainbird, relay and pump controller was THE WORST HUMAN ON THE PLANET....so because of the shitty way they handled the cut-outs, the relay was a LIVING HELL with about 10 wasp nests compacted inside.
surprise, i took the cover off to fix the fact they had the power and the valve lines coming out the same hole and got stung about 10x.
(pic doesn't do it justice, most of the nests fell out when i removed the cover.)
anyway, LOVE the rachio so far. PITA to setup using an android phone..i highly recommend you baws get an iphone or something if you don't want pairing issues.
rachio customer support - TOP NOTCH.
rachio app - the shite! it told me, "no no. that's not long enough. you need to run your zones precisely 34 minutes and 47 seconds each"
ok, rachio. i'll do better.
ancient rainbird
WTF this electrician should be shot.
RUN CAD RUN!!! (too late)
rachio installed despite being swarmed. not the wasps' fault. they were provided a perfect habit to build nests for the last 20 years.
rachio in and happy. too bad the wiring still looks like frick but i'm going to have to think on how to fix it. there's alot going on here especially between the relay box & pump box.

Also, it's amazing how simple rachio made this device. Rainbird complicated af because you needed 127 modes and settings to manage schedules and everything.
I would have to walk outside at 4am barefoot down a flight of stairs and over lava rocks and thorns to change a schedule or turn the zones off if we forgot to close our car windows. The location of that rainbird was the worst and the breaker was outside next to it.
NEVER AGAIN!
It's just a simple app now.
Rachio be like "I know what your soil is made of and weather, fam. I'll take care of what needs watering and you can just back the frick out of this app. I AM ETERNAL "

We’ve had our Rachio for about four or five years. We absolutely love it. Our grass has never been greener.

i woke up the first morning of it running to find it was bouncing around the zones..just getting each one wet and then circling back to it later.
then it said "peace, out..see you on the 27th" and i was like HELL NO I SET IT TO GO EVERY DAY
went into the settings and it was like "look, fam. you got storms coming through so imma take a break unless you think you know better than me"

of course not. i'm sorry racio. it won't happen again.
