I don't have Facebook (he says smugly) so how active is that ego group? You cited 2 posts from June and one from last summer? I bet i can find more than 3 posts on the food board here in the last 6 months saying tomatoes are key for gumbo.

Anyway i don't know what this mohawk is so not sure how i would look for it. Is this like when my old heavy mower would smash damp grass under the wheels and when i was done that grass would pop up and stick out later?

Is their argument a lighter mower somehow makes that worse?

It's probably Self Propelled models going too fast with small batteries. I bet it doesn't do that with 10ah or 12ah.

that actually makes sense. i haven't really used teh self-propelled feature on mine; i like to control the pace particularly when i'm hitting thick clover.

maybe thats the rub.

The Ego mowers aren't lighter than this

Motherfrickers just don't know how to cut grass.

Mohawks left by a heavy mower where the run-over grass pops back up is annoying. Mohawks left by a light mower seem to be user error, going too fast or whatever.

But at least you can make a light mower heavier if you want to.

I get these with my non-self propelled EGO. It’s annoying.

I think it should be mentioned that the EGO self propelled mower will haul arse if you run it wide open. It is so fast that you will get a workout from hell, so be in good shape if you do so. Seriously though, running it as fast as it will go is probably what is causing the mohawk effect. My wife and I are older now, we've both had fusion done in our backs. We run the EGO mower at around 50%, it is a good pace, and the mower cuts extremely well at that pace.

Same, but I got them with my previous mower as well. The high lift blade on the EGO has made it better. It's just my grass. If I go more than 4 days, it's pretty tall since I cut high to begin with. Then grass blades are heavy and lay down under the wheel. I just walk slow and 99.9% of it is taken care of with the lift from the blade getting more time to pull it back up.

Which model are you getting? My hesitation is how well do they cut tall wet St. Aug grass
I got the EGO POWER+ Select Cut XP 56-volt 10 Ah Model LM2156SP on sale at Lowe's for $700, regular price $850. The mulching blade came already attached (they give you 2 other blades for other purposes), and it took maybe an hour to charge the battery fully. Got home around 7:15pm last night and mowed my lawn in an hour, with 1 bar left on the battery (I have 1/5 acre lot with a 2500 sq ft house to give an idea of how much grass there is). It mulches super fine, and I did not notice any difficulty mowing over my thick St. Aug that has not been cut since last Saturday morning. I'm pleased with the purchase.

I did have to dial down the self-propelled speed because it is very fast and lightweight. I'm probably going to change the blade for bagging...I like how it's a 2-blade system. I guess time will tell how the battery life holds up. I'll probably purchase the trimmer soon.

I bought that model as well and have yet to use the self propelled feature. It's just so damn lightweight and with 3/4 of an acre I'm milking the battery.

The 2156sp is the one I would get if I go that route.

Ego has a 3 year battery warranty, and all evidence points to them lasting more than 5 years typically. Life expectancy can be near 1,000 full charge cycles, but even if you get only 300 out of it that's 6+ years generally. So factor that in.

If you search you will see that Ego's batteries are kinda shite. My 7.5 AH battery just crapped out. 2 years old and I wouldn't even call it moderate use.

Seems the warranty process is very hit and miss. Some reports of calling up to make a claim and a few mins later the new batt is ordered and on the way. A lot of horror stories though. I am gonna have to try to make a claim this week and I'm not looking forward to it.

I've probably done more searching on Ego batteries and batteries in general than most. One thing about the internet is people with problems are way louder than those who are satisfied.

Bad luck man. Maybe a bad batch of cells.

I don't look forward to dealing with customer service at any company, but I did have one experience with Ego's warranty service and it was very pleasant. I had a battery die and it was very much my own fault, but they just had me tell them the pattern of lights it was blinking and sent me a new one without asking any questions. I didn't even have to send the bad one back, they just told me to drop it off at home depot for disposal (which I didn't do).

I hope mine is like that. Found out last week my batt was a goner and there are a crapton of reddit threads complaining about the warranty procedure.

reddit doing reddit things.

I've interacted with them 3-4x due to a recall on the hedge trimmer (my model wasn't affected) and what I thought was a bad battery and they were top notch. Super helpful and ready to send me a new battery with zero proof of purchase date.

bump.

3yo 2.5ah battery finally bit the dust on me. called EGO, went through a few basic troubleshooting steps and 10 minutes later they sent me an email saying a brand new one is on its way.

can't put a price on customer service. i'm certainly an EGO fan for life (or until they do something awful).

eta the geek in me wonders if they have made any tweaks/improvements to the 2.5 battery in the last 3 years.

kork, didn't you open your old battery after they sent you a new one? anything fun in there i can play with?
