Help Time - shite Neighbors In A Rural Area; Trees To Avoid Them?
Two years ago my neighbor died on Christmas morning and his property went into probate. The family settled it and his niece ends up with it.

It's about 5 acres and is on the west side of our property. These mofo's do not mow their grass at all. They will bush hog the front yard when it gets too tall(and I'm talking 18" tall).

Last weekend while sitting on the back deck I yelled out in their direction to cut their freaking grass but this weekend my wife asked me to plant trees on our property line so we didn't have to see them any longer.

So

My question

What are the best trees to plant and were talking 500' easily.

Pampas grass. That will keep them from coming thru on that side of your property at all unless they want to get sliced up.

Leyland Cypress trees could fill it in. They grow pretty fast. They will get massive though. Not sure if that would be a problem for you.

Edit: Also look into Willow Hybrid

Evasive Bamboo. Cost effective, quick growing...

I think that was the answer I was looking for. I don't care how big they get.

Unless I win the lottery and offer her an absurd amount of money for her property I'd love to be as seperated from them as possible.

Seconded. I'm not sure what exact species, but as long as you cut your grass regularly, it will keep a clean line on your side as the shoots won't be able to grow. But, on their side it will spread and become a wall between your properties.

Only plant bamboo if you hate yourself as much as you hate your neighbor. Or you put a 10' wide concrete walkway on your side of the bamboo

Hell yes I am

Cut your damn grass

I don't think I'd like bamboo because it'd be ugly from my side. I like the cypress solution.

Live oaks. Leaves stay on tree year round.

If you need 500' tall, plant California redwoods.

Isn't it their grass? What if they yelled at you for the color of your house?

Almost everyone has had a neighbor that thinks they own the neighborhood, and have to police it. Don't be that guy

You had a thread on the OT about a neighbor dispute where you started shinning floods at her windows.

Glass houses, bruh

Do you want a hedge (solid at ground level) or trees large enough to throw shade? Hedges like sweet viburnum or the lately popular lorapetalum won’t grow more than 12’ tall.....but really, how high do you need to go just to block a view of the yard?

She was intruding on my property. Different scenario

Eta: Don't mean to derail your thread about bushes, just trying to keep you from being the nazi neighbor that everyone hates

Hedge

I don't want more trees because my yard guy would shoot me.

I think those cypress trees might be my best option. Now I just have to figure out how far apart to space them and when to plant them.

I live on a road that is 2 miles long and has 6 houses on it.

This is the only person that doesn't keep their yard maintained.

I'm talking half arse bush hogging the front yard enough so she can pull up to the front door.

I'm tired of seeing it and want a natural barrier between me and her and I'll pay for it.

If you don't like that then we can check knuckles.

From your title it appears you are not living in a subdivision or city limit

If your place is in fact in rural area what is the concern about neighbors grass? Other than visual what effects are you experiencing because of the neighbors talk grass?

They also are relatively short lived, 25 years maybe, and have other health issues which cause them to brown out. My guess is if you planted 30 of them, at least 10 would die over the first 10 years. Also, I am not a fan of one long row of the same tree species. If an insect or disease hits one tree it will rapidly spread to other trees of the same species. Consider mixing Nellie R. Stevens Holly, Savannah Holly, Eastern Red Cedar (if the area is not damp), Cherry laurel, Wax Myrtle and some large shrubs such as Pampass Grass, Loropetalum, Dwarf Wax Myrtle, Russian Olive (dry areas) and Needlepoint Holly.

Better bury it about 10' down while you're at it
