Asiatic Jasmine covers the entire section underneath my Ligustrums. It's pretty tough.

All three of these work well in the shade of a an oak tree:

Asian Jasmine- covers well, spreads quickly, low maintenance other than edging. Some tendrils will want to climb the tree trunk, but not too aggressively:

Long/tall monkey grass (this is what I have). Covers well, spreads relatively quickly, low maintenance, will not climb the trunk:

Cast Iron plant if you want a little more variation or height:

mondo grass (“monkey grass) would be another option. Have friend with a 6 mature live oaks and it thrives under those trees. Not likely to fill in as fast as as Asian Jasmine.

i prefer lirope.
it doesnt make a "mat" like jasmine, and doesnt run. a big clutch of jasmine also will eventually get full of thatch. liriope has pretty flowers in the late spring/summer and also once established is a never ending supply of transplantable product you can use to establish in other locations or at bed borders

I have an area around my cypress trees that goes under water about 4 times a year, staying under about 2 days. Is there something that could be planted there? I like the Jasmine idea....but dont know.

Does it it need to be a low evergreen ground cover? How about looking into Henry Garnet Virginia Sweetspire - Louisiana Superplant. I planted those under my cypress - wet area but doesn’t hold water for 2 days, but this plant might tolerate this. Couple articles on it. LINK LINK

Of course Louisiana irises would work for those wet conditions as well. Or both.

I may be able to pull it off, but it is hard to keep em mulched in, the bayou comes up and washes it all away when it does come up....then it drops super quick, completely drying up about 20% of summers.

Make sure there aren’t any shrubs around - I hate this crap - it spreads like crazy. I just started a thread on how to get rid of it.

I like monkey and mondo grass, cast iron plant, and holly fern.
