Have a small gravely ZT that’s leaking oil after recent oil change. It looks like the drain plug may be the culprit. I may have stripped part of the plug is my only guess (the yellow bolt part below).

The entire thing is plastic and is in the worst location.

taking a shot to see if anyone knows whether a metal after market plug fits this mower? It’s an 18 Briggs and Stratton.

Current plug looks like this:

Link is for example only. But that company should have one to fit the bill.

That looks perfect. I’m having trouble finding/knowing what’s compatible.

That looks to be 1/4 in. male NPT threads. Just get a metal male 1/4 in. NPT nipple in whatever length will extend pat the mower frame. Next get a female 1/4 in. NPT collar, and a male 1/4 in. NPT plug. My JD with a 22 hp Briggs has this configuration. Use yellow teflon tape on the threads. Yellow is for use with petroleum based products, i.e. gasoline and oil. White teflon tape is for sealing with water.

Good Luck!

This is a common misconception. Yellow (double density "Teflon tape") is for natural gas lines. It will break down in the presence of gasoline just like the white single density PTFE tape. The best choice for gasoline fitting is Loctite 565. Though I will admit to using white, yellow and pink PTFE tape on occasion with gasoline fittings without issue.

Preach. I have a Gravely w/ a Kawi, same configuration. Please let me know what you end up doing, I'm interested in changing mine.

Can you get one that’s has a 6 inch hose on it?

May help with future oil changes.

I found my model no. and manual online and believe I found a correct replacement which I ordered. I’ll try to remember to come update this once I try to install it.

I just use a dab of Tru-Blu and call it a day, compatible with gasoline, diesel.

I know. In a location begging to be stripped to boot.

These plugs with the hoses should be standard on small engines today.

Nice. I wasn’t aware of them honestly. Should make oil changes much easier.
