The key is availability, not the source.

Buy a used one.

Otherwise, get in line.

I started the process last July and they said 60 days so I waited for the hurricane season to wind down which didn't happen. When I started the process to order again, of course we had 3 more storms and a 6 month wait for generators.
Ya snooze, ya lose. My fault.

When you ordered it, how long did they tell you it would take to get?

Get the Kohler -- it's better anyway.

Well, I say that partially in jest because the air-cooled Generacs had a ton of problems when they first started manufacturing their own engines. However, I hear they are much improved nowadays so take my comment with a grain of salt.

Kohler has been manufacturing high-quality engines for a variety of uses for a long time and their generators are known to be among the best. Plus, their online app is great for getting a status, keeping track of maintenance, etc. (Generac may have caught up here too -- not sure). The only negative is there are fewer authorized dealers. I've been super happy with mine after seven years and runs a house with four AC units, etc.

My ONE piece if advice regardless of which you choose: make sure you use synthetic oil if you do the maintenance yourself.

We are a dealer for Generac and have a bunch on order currently. Ship date to us is expected to be September 2021. We have deposits on several already so most will be pre-sold when they arrive.

Good luck!

So how fricked am I? Order in November and keep getting told two weeks for the last 2 months.

I paid for the cost of the generator up front also

A couple of years ago an electrician who installed them for a living in Texas told me he had kept a running tally and about 40% of the Generacs he installed failed before they were ever used for a power outage. Now maybe their quality have improved but based on last February don't bet your life on it.

A standby by generator HAS TO START AND RUN WHEN YOU NEED IT.
