Anywhere in or near BR that you can go out and pick flowers for a price? our daughter is going through a phase where she wants to pick every flower she sees and I thought it would be fun to do this with her one weekend. I remember of a farm out in the 337 we went to a year or two ago (I forgot the name but will look up) and they offered the same type of service I'm asking about. I would just rather stay local and I also forget the availability of that other farm we visited.

Doesn’t help now and it’s a little less local but we’ll have sunflowers in a few months. It’s a pick your own to raise money for St. Jude.
South of Lafayette .. June/Julyish .. just depends on when we can get them planted weather wise.

my wife has been trying to get to you or someone like you for years we haven’t had the timing in the fields nor our time line up yet. If you do get a good pickable crop and a harvest date could you start a post here to give a heads up?

I can try — is that “selling” or asking for money if it’s a St. Jude fundraiser?
I knew someone here knew about it .. I guess it was you!

Can you give us some more info now? I want to put this in my calendar. We would donate just to walk around.

It’s in Kaplan, Louisiana. We plant once our rice is planted as my husband has time. It’s typically 3 or 4 acres of old fashioned sunflowers .. thigh height with the right conditions.
It’s a pick your own, just visit, bring a chair/blanket and sit and stay a while. It’s donation based .. with whatever amount one chooses.
If by chance you have Facebook (yeah I know) we have a group called Sunflowers for St. Jude!!! (All of the !!! are part of the name)
This will be our 8th year of doing it!

Thanks Spank -- we sure think so. In the 8 years, we've raised I'm guessing roughly $40,000. It sure makes us happy!! I am out there just about every evening when they're blooming .. I love to meet our visitors and find out where they're from, where they heard about us, etc.
Some come because they love sunflowers.
Some come because they love St. Jude.
We've got some who come just to sit and in their words "visit with God".
Last year I saw a few ladies on separate occasions walk up to the field and legit cry.
Last year, we also had a girl and her horse visit -- she was in a contest for "Next Top Trainer" or something like that and wanted pics of her bronco that she broke in a field of "wildflowers" .. they aren't exactly wildflowers BUT they sure were beautiful photos.
We also have a shite ton of nature photographers who come out.
We've also had many local St. Jude patients (past as well as current) come as well. It's typically hot as hell but last year we added benches (they're so crude and heavy but someone made them for us and I was thankful) and will add hopefully a few more this year.

Regarding our sunflower field:
For those who are still interested, we saw the first sunflower bloom yesterday. We expect more over the coming weeks, barring any weather events.
The only place we have info is on Facebook … Sunflowers for St. Jude!!! is the page name.
We’re in Kaplan, La.
