Fiberglass versus wooden west-facing exterior door?

My house in SoLa gets strong afternoon sun. I replaced one wood door after 15 years when it started to delaminate. The 20-yearold wood w/ glass replacement now has a cracked panel and is sticking badly in this hot winter.

Are quality fiberglass exterior doors any more long lasting and size stable?

I have the same issue and am also needing to replace a set of French doors. I think I will go with steel doors the next time around.

Steel are the best, with jam and threshold.

I had a house the door was bad like yours. It had a nice etched glass insert. We took the glass out the old door, built a new door, with the glass installed.

Another house my friend wanted a barn door installed, full glass, the guy that measured, was off. We removed the glass, built another door. Don’t know what the other guy was measuring.

I love the look of wood doors.

I will never install wood exterior doors if they receive direct sun or rain.

They now have paintable/stainable wood grain fiberglass. That’s what I got works great, no rot and forever

Definitely not wood if it’s exposed. Steel is good, fiberglass is “better”, with the wood grain, won’t rust if exposed to rain/splash.

Just know that the steel they use is thin and will dent very easily. On top of that, they tend to rust out at the bottoms first since that is where moisture sits way longer than anywhere else on the door.

The new built door was way less than a new steel door.
