I’m in Huntsville for Christmas. My dad mentions he’d like some shelves in this little nook. The only thing we had to buy was a sheet of birch. All the trim was pine that he had laying around that we ripped using a neighbor’s table saw. It still needs painting.

Ripped pieces of pine for cleats.

Birch shelves

Ripped pine for the facing. Plus a piece of crown his neighbor had.

Nice work.

One thing i hate about building stuff... is the finishing part.

Looks good, he should stain the shelves to match the floor and the random piece of trim!

I mentioned that also. He’s just going to paint it all white.

Nice work. That dead spot was made for some shelving.

Amateur question - shelves are glued on top of your cleats? I have a pantry project in front of me that looks just like this. My wife wants u-shaped shelves so they can come basically to the door but you don't make it so deep in the middle. I get it, just not too excited about cutting those out.

As for finishing, I like getting someone else to do it. I hate painting and I don't have a cabinet sprayer.

For a pantry, you might want to make the shelves different heights. Not all cans/boxes/ bulk buys are the same height.

This was kinda fun and turned out well. I more than doubled the shelf space in the pantry.

Looks like that is what should have been there when the house was built. Nice work.
But what did the architect, or builder, intend for that nook?

I can build it right, but painting, sanding, staining....that's for somebody else!

Nothing…..they saved a little money on the build and the husband got an extra item on his honey do list.
